Eminem's first commercially released album, after being discovered by Dr Dre, propelled Eminem to the top of the music industry. This album was a fresh approach at hiphop, contraversial while still containing some great music. This added with the extravagent personality of the alter-ego Slim Shady made this album a guaranteed hit.
The "Public Service Announcement" sets the scene for this album. "The views and events expressed here are totally f**ked, do not partake in the listening of this album with laces in your shoes" describes this album perfectly. The lyrics maybe "f**ked" but they are fun and not to be taken seriously.
The first track is also Eminem's first release, "My Name Is". This is, if you didn't already know, a very catchy track with some very funny lyrics. Eminem's originality on this track separated him from the crowd and made his name known to the consumer.
"Guilty Conscience" shows Eminem and Dr Dre playing the parts of a few peoples consciences in situations such as catching your wife with another man. Funny track with a catchy hook.
"Brain
Damage" is the story of Eminem as a child and is based on true facts like when Marshall Mathers was put in a coma by the school bully, D'Angelo Bailey. Eminem again shows his lyrical skills on a great track.
"If I Had" is a track where Eminem gets his problems of his chest. Now he's a multi-millionaire I don't think some of these things apply to him any more but still a great track.
"97 Bonnie and Clyde" or "Just the two of us"(as it is called on the Slim Shady EP, the first version of the Slim Shady LP), is the track where Eminem kills his babys-momma. This track caused a lot of contreversy. Eminem kills his girlfriend then takes her to a river to dispose of the body and brings along his daughter. You really have to hear this track. Its funny and not to be taken seriously like some critics have taken it. Great track.
"Role Model" sends out a message to all the people complaining about his lyrics. He takes the mick of people who think kids will follow exactly what he says, " I got genital warts and they burst when i pee. Don't you want to grow up to be just like me?" Great lyrics over a cool beat.
"My Fault" tells the story of how a girl takes too many magic mushrooms and goes mental. Weird track but quite funny as Eminem explains how this girl goes on a bad trip.
The next track "Cum On Everybody" is his dance song. Fast beat which Eminem raps over in his usual style. Average track.
"Rock Bottom" describes Eminem's life as a part of america's "white trash", Unable to get a job and living in a crappy house. Good track.
"Just Don't give a F**k" tells us how Eminem ummm, doesn't give a f**k. A message to all his critics to diss him if they want, but to watch their back if they do. Wicked beats make this a classic track.
"As the World Turns" is a lyrically superb track. Great beats but not a very catchy tune or hook.
"I'm Shady" is a catchy track. Eminems funny lyrics make this a classic track.
"Bad Meets Evil" has a great beat and tune. Royce The 5-9 adds an extra edge to the track which is one of the best on the album.
"..but if i offended you......GOOD. Cause I still dont give a f**k" states clearly Eminems views of people who don't like his lyrics. One of the best tracks, with a great hook, beat and classic Eminem lyrics. This ends the album on a high.
I you really are offended by Eminem's lyrics then you take yourself too seriously. This album contains some great music and Eminem's lyrics are clever and humourous. Whatever I say probably won't sway your opinions but i believe that Eminem is a great lyricist. This album is classic Eminem and I suppose you'll either love it, or hate it. I love it and fully recommend it.

Before releasing "Slim Shady LP" Eminem recorded the "Slim Shady EP" this album contains mainly the same tracks but some tracks are different. Also the production is completely different. Some songs sound very different to the professional production on the LP. The track list is:

Any Eminem fan should check this out. Although available for sale in the shops, search for it on auction sites as some copies are available. You could also download it from Napster.
