Well, for a start, the album followed his "Infinite" release from 1996 which sold less than a thousand copies. This meant that this album wasn't expected to sell neither.
However when "My Name Is" was released it turned him into a world superstar overnight.
This was all done despite a mother that was trying to sue him for a lot of money, a problematic wife and an unbelievable amount of critics slagging him off all of the time. He has also set up his own music label and is enjoying success with his band D12.

The tracks are really well thought out and now, after I had heard "Infinite" I wondered how he could go from a relatively mediocre album to a multi platinum selling masterpiece.
You really find out all about Eminem's life in just over an hour of music, how he was always moving schools, getting bullied, trying to cope with having a child, even trying to cope with being called Marshall Mathers. One thing that can be said is that it will be one of the best musical experiences you can have. It really dismisses the notion that you can only rap if you are black.
