This is the latest release from a 3 piece band, which over the years (since 1994 with the release of 'Pokinatcha'), have become a quite a lot more popular. It's easy to see why because their music is now seen as a lot more catchy (not really a god thing) to most people.

This is the latest release from a 3 piece band, which over the years (since 1994 with the release of 'Pokinatcha'), have become a quite a lot more popular. It's easy to see why because their music is now seen as a lot more catchy (not really a god thing) to most people. fans of Blink 182 can not fail to notice the talent of the MXPX 3, Mike Herrera - Bass + vocals, Yuri Ruley - Drums, and Tom Wisniewski - guitar and backing vocals. For anyoune expecting anything a bit more manly, this cannot be recommended. They sing about life and love, which is often only good if you can relate to it. When I first heard it, I thought it sounded a bit like the Steriophonics , thank God though, it soon changed. The one thing that I don't like about this CD is the fact that most of the songs sound a lot alike. Mikes voice is very loud compared to the instruments, so it's often hard to distinguish between tracks. Even Foo Fighters frontman - Dave Grohl, hepls out on track 8 (The Next Big Thing), but even his influence doesn't make this track much different to the rest. It is one of the slightly better ones though. My favouritres being no. 9, 'Foolish', and no. 15, 'Misplaced memories'. From what can be heard above Mikes voice, their playing of their instruments is actually not bad. Afterall, they didn't get where they are today without being good. They do manage to mix in nice guitar riffs all over the place (which is what Grohl does on #8 - he wrote the intro) Depending on how pop or punk you want to go, I'd recommend this (for the pop) and 'Let It Happen' - 1998 (for the punk. More punk than this one anyway).

Advantages: Brilliant Disadvantages: May cause you to think, or enjoy life
MXPX's raw sound, reactionist lyrics and pumping guitar riffs make this a truely brilliant album! Song's like 'I'm OK and You're OK' not only has brilliant lyrics "What exactly do you talk about when i'm away, you're here to stay and i'm ok' but the bass line and riffs really takes the song to the next level.
Many of the songs like 'Get with it' are truely thought provokeing which is rare for a modern punk band, this band truely stand out above ...

Additional notes
Album Notes: MxPx: Mike Herrera (vocals, bass); Tom (guitar, background vocals); Yuri (drums, cymbals). Additional personnel: Greg Hetson (guitar); Ronnie King (keyboards); Dale Yob, Jeff Bettger (background vocals). Recorded at Robert Lang Studios, Seattle, Washington in February 1998. Hailing from Bremerton, Washington, MxPx (a shortened form of their old moniker, Magnified Plaid) mixes youthful exuberance with rage, a sure-fire recipe for success in the modern, hardcore-friendly market. This band, however, shows a wisdom and emotional maturity which belies their peach-fuzz visages. The opener, "Under Lock And Key" explores the attitude of youth ("Should I wake up and explain myself to you/Or should I not care and sleep the whole day through"), vocalist Mike Herrara's West-Coast punk-pop vocal style reminiscent of a more tuneful Billy Armstrong. Another aspect which separates MxPx from the pack is their spirituality--tattoos and facial piercings aren't usually the mark of the faithful, but these kids are putting their faith in a higher power. Through this strong belief, they strike a positive approach ("Tomorrow's Another Day," "Get With It!"), proving that hard and fast doesn't necessarily mean decadent and careless--MxPx is a band with their hearts and heads in the right place, bringing a message of hope and courage to a scene plagued by negativity.
