This is the latest release from a 3 piece band, which over the years (since 1994 with the release of 'Pokinatcha'), have become a quite a lot more popular. It's easy to see why because their music is now seen as a lot more catchy (not really a god thing) to most people.
fans of Blink 182 can not fail to notice the talent of the MXPX 3, Mike Herrera - Bass + vocals, Yuri Ruley - Drums, and Tom Wisniewski - guitar and backing vocals. For anyoune expecting anything a bit more manly, this cannot be recommended. They sing about life and love, which is often only good if you can relate to it.
When I first heard it, I thought it sounded a bit like the Steriophonics
, thank God though, it soon changed.
The one thing that I don't like about this CD is the fact that most of the songs sound a lot alike. Mikes voice is very loud compared to the instruments, so it's often hard to distinguish between tracks.
Even Foo Fighters frontman - Dave Grohl, hepls out on track 8 (The Next Big Thing), but even his influence doesn't make this track much different to the rest. It is one of the slightly better ones though. My favouritres being no. 9, 'Foolish', and no. 15, 'Misplaced memories'.
From what can be heard above Mikes voice, their playing of their instruments is actually not bad. Afterall, they didn't get where they are today without being good. They do manage to mix in nice guitar riffs all over the place (which is what Grohl does on #8 - he wrote the intro) Depending on how pop or punk you want to go, I'd recommend this (for the pop) and 'Let It Happen' - 1998 (for the punk. More punk than this one anyway).
