Smashes And Trashes (Special Edition Box) - Skunk Anansie

Skunk, skunk, skunk anansie....

Advantages: Play it loud to annoy the neighbours
Disadvantages: too political for some

This was Skunk Anansie's first outing way back in 1995 (gosh, it don't seem that long ago! lol I first saw this band on 'The White Room' on Channel 4 where Skin (the singer) had a white stripe painted on her head! - She frightened me to death!! They are a multi-racial Metal band with twinges of power funk thrown in for good measure. Skin has frighteningly intense vocals where as Cass (bass player) just knows exactly how to slap those strings! Most of the songs on this album are either about being black or a woman (usually both!) But don't let that put you off, the music is second to none - I always love debut albums, bands are at their most rawest. (is that a word?) This album just keeps on giving from the manic 'Selling Jesus' to the hypnotic 'i can dream', 'All in the name' comes along and kicks you where it hurts ...

The Stoosh, the Stoosh, the Stoosh is on fire

Advantages: Raw and angry, yet gentle and heartfelt all in the right places.
Disadvantages: Skin's voice will either win you over or send you packing.

Ain't that front cover scary? There are no two ways about it, Skin is bloody terrifying. I've seen her live on a handful of occasions, and though she is small enough to consider a matchbox car as a means of transport, her stage presence is intimidating and ultra confident. Stoosh was the second album, and the one that really cemented Skunk Anansie as one of the big British rock bands in the mid to late 90s. To this day, their music sounds fresh, exciting and revolutionary, and I think it's because while they were lumped in the same pen as certain other acts, they've never been quite like anyone else. Most of the band came from rough backgrounds in London, and the mix of cultural backgrounds meant that from the start, there was never going to be an aspiration to sound like any other band. Die Hard - Box set special editions

Advantages: Two great films in one box set
Disadvantages: Have to buy Die Hard 3 separately.

that Die Hard3 was done by a different Studio and in the UK there was a bit of a problem with the distribution rights, so Die Hard 3 was sold as an individual purchse and not with this box set. Shame. Since then the films have been sold in a multi pack without the extras. It is also funny to see Robert Patrick of Terminator 2 in this as well. If you can get the boxed set of two films do so, the third is available as a special edition with the same flavour of extras and a different ending. If you cant you'll have to buy them individually and that may work out a bit more, but will still be worth it. With Die Hard 4 currently in production interest in these DVD's will soon be raised again. Oh by the way these are the unedited versions of the film, which became evident when watching the second film with the stabbing in the eye by Mac ...
