Advantages: Great sampler, excellent recording. Disadvantages: Not quite as memorable as being there in person.
...The Vienna New Year's Concert is a tradition somewhat akin to the "Last Night of the Proms" apart from the fact that obviously it is Austrian music that is played, and there is not the same atmosphere. The concert has happened annually since 1939, although originally it used to take place on New Year's Eve rather than New Year's Day, because a poor attendance was feared, after the traditional Austrian "Silvester" revelry.
One other difference is that the New Year's Concert is even more exclusive than the Last Night of the Proms, as you have to apply for tickets two years in advance, and they are exceptionally pricey. Indeed applications for the 2003 concert closed on 2nd January this year. It is an event to be seen at, and is also a musical highlight of the Vienna music scene. Each year since 1987, when the late Herbert von Karajan...

Advantages: Atomic, variety of styles, Debbie's vocals Disadvantages: a couple of the tracks are rather weird
...This was the first Blondie album I bought and after this, I continued to buy their albums and collect memorabilia on Debbie Harry. This began a love of their music, which has lasted over twenty years so far.
Eat To The Beat has twelve tracks on it, with the overall style definitely being rock, but there are some beautiful, deep and meaningful songs in here too.
Side One begins with Dreaming, which is a song I used to sing with my friends at school. I still remember all the lyrics, although I don't think this song is generally very well-known, especially when compared to some of the great classic songs on here.
Union City Blue is the most famous track on Side One, but was never one of my favourites. But the other smash hit on the album is Atomic, which must still rate as a classic, one of Blondie's best songs and a great track which...

Advantages: Good for new Rush fans who don't want to buy all albums Disadvantages: Mostly good tracks but a few poor ones.
...Rush are classed as a ‘progressive’ rock band. Over the last 20 or so years they have produced dozens of albums; their music has progressed from simple heavy rock to a more mixed rock that mixes ballad, heavy rock and rock anthem.
Rush are a three man band from Canada, although the sound they produce sounds as good if not better than many four or five bands.
Alex Lifeson is the lead guitarist, his mix of classical, six string lead and twelve string guitar work is impressive; his style is instantly recognizable to most.
Geddy Lee the vocalist and bassist is the inspiration of Rush, his skills at writing unique and powerful introspective songs stamp out a style that is recognizable even in his own solo album.
Neil Peart is an exceptional drummer who is up there with the best. Unfortunately due to personal tragedies...
