The Beautiful South rose from the ashes of the Housemartins. Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway from the Housemartins added Dave Stead (Drummer), Dave Rotheray (Guitarist) and Sean Welsh (Guitarist). After the success of the Beautiful South’s first single ‘Song for Whoever’ another vocalist was needed so Brianna Corrigan joined up.
Solid Bronze is the Beautiful South’s eighth album after; 1. Welcome to the Beautiful South 2. 0898 3. Miaow 4. Blue is the Colour 5. Carry on up the Charts 6. Quench 7. Painting it Red
I have all the Beautiful South albums and I think that they are all very good, as this is a compilation of all their best hits it has to be there best album to date.
The songs on the album are;
1. Rotterdam (Or Anywhere) 2. Perfect 10 3. You Keep It All In 4. Don't Marry Her 5. A Little Time 6. Everybody's Talkin' 7. Good As Gold (Stupid As Mud) 8. Dream A Little Dream 9. Song For Whoever 10. Old Red Eyes Is Back 11. The Root of All Evil 12. One Last Love Song 13. Dumb 14. How Long's A Tear Take To Dry? 15. Blackbird on the Wire
The album itself is very good. Brianna Corrigan left after a while and was soon replaced by Jacqueline Abbot and after she left Alison Wheeler came in. No one else of the original line-up has left.
My favourite song of the album is a new one it is called The Root of All Evil, the song is about if England replaced the pound with the Euro. I like this song because it means something to me because I don’t think that I would ever want to get rid of the pound. Maybe when I’m older and commute more I might want it to change.
I think that the album is very good. Since I have written this review, the Beautiful South has gone onto release another album called Goldiggas, Headnodders and Pholk Songs. The album is also very good, it is an album of covers including Don’t Stop Movin’ by SClub7 and Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones.
