Advantages: Could be used as background music. Disadvantages: No musical ability whatsoever is displayed here, the album is despicably tedious.
With latest album 'The Mix-Up', BeastieBoys tread new ground in that it's the first album the band has ever released of all new instrumental material. Whereas in the past the albums of the BeastieBoys have been littered with all the bands best rap licks, here the voices have been cut out, the computers have been left alone, and an album has been produced which utilises instruments such as drums, guitars, organ, bass, and synth. Twelve tracks are contained on this album of entirely instrumental BeastieBoys music, a change in direction for the boys and in all honesty an incredibly strange move for the band to have undertaken.
BeastieBoys have never been my favourite hip-hop artist in the world, I have however greatly enjoyed some of their music in the past and in picking up this album was expecting the music to come alive ...
Advantages: Lots of big tunes Disadvantages: Some tracks take a while to get into
Seen as a return album, ?Check Your Had? came out in 1992 as the third album from The BeastieBoys. The New Yorkers, consisting of the three MCs Ad-Rock, MCA and Mike D, were seen to return (off the back of two classic records) to return from two pure Hip Hop releases to move on stylistically to their roots in Punk Rock, whilst still holding on to both the Hip hop elements and also pulling in other ones such as Jazz too.

They kick the album off with a track that seems work well as the first track to the album as it seems to effectively lead on from the killer Hip Hop offering that was ?Pal? Boutique? and so with this one you fin that as they get down to things, they keep things the way that they have been known well for with the first two albums as they come with some straight, underground Hip Hop and here come in ...
Advantages: first 9 tracks are everything that can be hoped for (barring Patience) Disadvantages: no band input, mixed playlist, poor packaging
Axl ?shoot myself in the foot? Rose and his band of merry men return from a lengthy hiatus with the release of their official greatest hits package. Although I say official, in truth had Axl had his way then this release would never have seen the light of day. As hard as he and Slash tried, even efforts in court failed, they couldn?t stop Geffen Records releasing what they saw as an acceptable package. Geffen it seemed, having been taken to the limit with constant promises of Chinese Democracy, took it into their own hands to place together a collection of songs and rush release it. If I were to be honest, this is one of the worst ?hits? packages that you will find, not because of the music, rather due to the circumstances. Firstly, for a greatest hits package there is very little here that can?t be purchased on a market stall for £3 ...
The Beastie Boys: Ad Rock, Mike D, MCA (rap vocals); DJ Hurricane (turntables). The only collection to span the Beastie Boys' career from 1986 to 2004, SOLID GOLD HITS features songs from each of the New York City rap/rock trio's first six studio albums. Arranged in non-chronological order, this 15-track disc focuses on the pioneering group's most popular tunes, ranging from the infamous anthem "Fight for Your Right" to the ominous, organ-heavy "So What'cha Want" and the thoughtful hometown tribute "An Open Letter to NYC." Somewhat bafflingly, the Beasties' most rewarding records--PAUL'S BOUTIQUE (1989) and CHECK YOUR HEAD (1992)--are represented by only two tracks each, but this is likely due to the cohesive yet eclectic nature of those discs, which concentrate more on overall mood rather than on catchy singles. Hardcore B-Boys fans will lament the absence of classics such as "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun," "Gratitude," and "Stand Together," but this 2005 compilation, as the title states, is geared toward the hits, and thus functions as a concise, party-ready sampler of the Beasties' groundbreaking and energetic brand of hip-hop.
Album Reviews
Uncut (p.122) - 4 stars out of 5 - "SOLID GOLD HITS leaves you with the impression that the Beasties were one of the great singles bands of their generation: nutty, fun, and a bit bizarre."
