Solid Silver [Remastered] - Quicksilver Messenger Service
Additional notes
Album Notes: Quicksilver Messenger Service includes: Gary Duncan, John Cipollina (vocals, guitar); Dino Valenti (vocals); Pete Sears, Nicky Hopkins, Michael Lewis (piano); David Freiberg (bass, background vocals); Skip Olson (bass); Greg Elmore (drums); Kathi McDonald (background vocals). Recorded at Coloumbia Recording Studios, San Francisco, California between June 30 and August 29, 1975. Includes liner notes by Alan Robinson. All tracks have been digitally remastered. This was Quicksilver's reunion album, which meant that all six of the musicians who'd ever officially been in the band--including legendary folkie Dino Valente and legendary Brit piano man Nicky Hopkins--were on hand, as well as a large supporting cast including members of Jefferson Starship and guitarist John Cippolina's younger brother. Not surprisingly, this collectivist approach diluted the Quicksilver style somewhat; the Haight Ashbury dual guitar flashes are mostly a memory, although Cippolina structures the bluesy "Heebie Jeebies" around a particularly smoking riff and "Witches Moon" features him trading licks with second guitarist Gary Duncan just like in the old days. The rest of the album is pleasant, laid-back mid-'70s California pop and soul--think middling Doobie Brothers, perhaps, or genius Pablo Cruise.
Advantages: Excellent Jazz Album. Disadvantages: None!
...a little bit of everything included and each song holds also, some fantastic memories for me, about my Grandparents, when I was growing up. They both used to dance around a lot to this CD and those memories of this music are happy ones to me that make me smile to myself when I think about this. I love listening to this album a lot and not because I am a huge jazz fan or anything, but because my Grandparents and all these songs, really mean a lot to me.
This Birth of cool CD was re-mastered in 1998, as it originally was on a LP and sounded a bit crackly. Well this newer version is not perfect either, but it sure is a lot better sound quality than before. A further remake of this album called “The complete Birth Of Cool is now also available with lots more added tracks by Miles Davis and it sounds great.

Advantages: Classic electro album, remastering adds a real boost Disadvantages: None
...a bit of a rush job sound wise, this one has been remastered and benefits from a far tighter sound, particularly the lower end where Foxx does like to crank it a bit. WIth a suitably decent HiFi there are some nice noises here to excercise your system but everyone should benefit from the improved quality.
A further bonus is the inclusion of extra tracks in the form of singles and B-sides from around the Metamatic era although some start to lean towards the rather different sound he adopted with the next album, The Garden.
For anyone who was around between the mid 70's to late 80's and has an interest in the roots of electro, this is a must have purchase. Foxx seems to be going the way of Numan from a few years back i.e. long forgotton but suddenly being namechecked by the great and the good and in Foxx's case, whether it's the three...

Advantages: A Walk Down Memory Lane, Remembering The pop 90's Disadvantages: Repetitive Lyrics & Beats
...Greetings everyone,
Guess what I am back with another classic pop CD review. I am again doing some annual cleaning before Chinese New Year and this CD is what I dug out. It must have been one of the few CDs I consider worth keeping, that's probably why I still have it.
By the way, if I were to mention Solid Harmonie, most of you might have not even heard of them unless you were really into pop during the starting days of Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys sometime back in 1998.
Well, I am here to give you a little lesson in Pop history. Solid Harmonie is made of four girls named Beki, Elisa, Mariama & Melissa. They were under the wings of Lou Pearlman, the person who brought you the Backstreet Boys and N*Sync. Solid Harmonie were considered to be the less popular version of the Spice Girls although they did receive quite a good...
