Advantages: True Baroque Classics and fun to play Disadvantages: None really, apart from some can get difficult, but nevertheless enjoyable and problems are easy to overcome
...These are particularly fun to play pieces and fantastic to listen to, especially for the intermediate and advanced grades. In my opinion they really show off your skills as a solo violinist as well as, well for me, definitely was one of the pieces which improved my tonal quality and control much more easily than ever before whilst playing them. Listening to the solo pieces is quite astounding and pleasent album to listen to
One of my favourite pieces is the vivace movement form Fantasia no. 9 in Bminor. It was my grade 7 exam piece and really fascinating to play, especially with the fast semiquaver passages, followed with the big octave leaps in the music where full ocntrol is vital for this piece. There are occasional double and triple stops which provide great finishes for the piece and split it into clear sections. When...

Advantages: Some classic solo tracks Disadvantages: A collection which doesn't separate the wheat from the chaff
...Let's be honest from the start of this review. This is not a collection for the casual, curious fan coming across Freddie for the first time. If you are that sort of person, then you should probably be looking at the more recent "greatest hits" style album that has just been released. Disc 1 - Mr Bad Guy is probably Freddie's best and possibly best known solo album released in 1983 at a time when critics of Queen were lampooning the band's seeming loss of direction.
The album consists of 11 tracks and is alot poppier than Queen's output ever was. It's a mix of up beat dance and piano based ballads.
Two tracks - Made In Heaven and I...

Advantages: A musical and visual extravaganza! Disadvantages: Too expensive for the average fan
...On October 23rd, The Freddie Mercury Solo Collection is to be released. The releases are in various formats including a 10 CD and 2 DVD set presented in a deluxe 120 page slipcase hardback book includine a forward by Brian May. The formats then range from a 3 CD set and a Video collection on VHS and DVD. This is a true must for Freddie fans, however I have read on the queen on line site that the 10 cd pack will be in the region of £120.00. Whilst this is a fair price for 10 cds, it is a lot of money to ask a fan to shell out - it really is a rich collectors dream as it will feature rarities and interviews. I have no doubt that the set will be excellent and a must for those with money to burn - however I find that the cost is out of my reach. I shall have to settle for the 3 cd set or the video! Knowing the quality of Freddie's work...
