to his music onSome of My Best Friends Are DJs. Following turns with Money Mark, Deltron 3030 and Lovage, Canada's cheekiest mixologist defied weighty expectations with his beguiling debut album,Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Three years later, and Kid Koala has retained his youthful verve. Packaged with a 52-page, self-penned comic and a travel chess kit,Some of My Best Friends Are DJsoffers less in the way of music, with the 35-minute running time meaning the restless sonic snippets wisely end before his humour has a chance to grate.Mixing sleazy whisky-bar vibes with adolescent antics, his second album never allows the listener to settle. Moments of playful mixing magic are at times followed by baffling inanity as "Skanky Panky"--with its wonderfully shattered Ska rhythm and frantic scratches--runs into "Flu Season", ostensibly a series of beat-accompanied coughs, sneezes and sniffs. Blending blues, jazz and funk with a myriad of bizarre samples, moments of pure eccentric genius such as "Robochacha" and "More Dance Music" make this a flawed yet fascinating slice of beat-driven bravura.--Christopher Barrett

Album Reviews: JazzTimes (7-8/02, p.91) - \"...A first-rate album...\"
Advantages: It comes with a comic book Disadvantages: Its odd, very odd
...and out blues or jazz this one may annoy you as the DJing is at many times very apparent. However I feel in many cases it enhances the song and gives an old medium a good twist.
I love the pitch blending of the mouth organ Stompin' at le Savoi and just feel in places this album is what music these days needs. Its got a little bit of love in it and it has a whole load of soul.
Its not the most listenable album when you first pick it up but it does grow on you and does work when drunk (underage? don't drink! its not big or clever!)
My advice, try it, you might like it. For fans of blues and trip hop mostly but could be listened to by anyone. As I said at the top though, Some of mybestfriends hate this album....

Advantages: A Passionate Desire, May Burn A Gem-Like Fire... Disadvantages: Consumed By Flames Of Woe; We All Someday Must Go...
...over what will be-- The inevitability of death renders losing inconsequential, thus, the worst fate we face is also our best fate; that our love consumes us in the fires of our own relentless passion...
2ND CHORUS:
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light my fire
Try to set the night on fire... (E)
So we've got 1st verse, 1st chorus, 2nd verse, 2nd chorus, now the song goes into the first of two solos...
In various interviews, Ray mentioned the influence Jazz Saxophonist, John Coltrane had on him. We see it manifested here. Ray models LMF's jazzy interlude after John Coltrane's cover of "My Favorite Things" (not exactly "The Sound Of Music" your mother knew and loved, but yes, essentially the tune Julie Andrews sang in the movie.) By shifting Coltrane's MFT from "D minor" to "E," and its time signature from a "3...

Advantages: Ray Charles Greatest Hits ! Disadvantages: ?
...school, Ray wanted to work as a musician, and so he did. He played with many bands, different styles of music; but his real career started in 1949 when his first hit was released "Confession Blues" (initially released as by "The Maxin Trio", this being the name of the band he formed)… After this success many other came, such as: "Baby, Let Me Hold Your Hand", "I Got a Woman", "Unchain My Heart", "You Are My Sunshine", etc…
The life of Ray Charles was something amazing for me…in his music life he was full of success and everybody loved him, but in his personal life he was a mess…he was addicted to heroin, thing that almost killed him and at one point on his career almost destroyed him. He was arrested a few times for drugs possession, but this didn't made him to stop…he struggled for 20 years with his addiction for heroin...
