to his music on Some of My Best Friends Are DJs. Following turns with Money Mark, Deltron 3030 and Lovage, Canada's cheekiest mixologist defied weighty expectations with his beguiling debut album, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Three years later, and Kid Koala has retained his youthful verve. Packaged with a 52-page, self-penned comic and a travel chess kit, Some of My Best Friends Are DJs offers less in the way of music, with the 35-minute running time meaning the restless sonic snippets wisely end before his humour has a chance to grate. Mixing sleazy whisky-bar vibes with adolescent antics, his second album never allows the listener to settle. Moments of playful mixing magic are at times followed by baffling inanity as "Skanky Panky"--with its wonderfully shattered Ska rhythm and frantic scratches--runs into "Flu Season", ostensibly a series of beat-accompanied coughs, sneezes and sniffs. Blending blues, jazz and funk with a myriad of bizarre samples, moments of pure eccentric genius such as "Robochacha" and "More Dance Music" make this a flawed yet fascinating slice of beat-driven bravura. --Christopher Barrett
Dizzy Gillespie's band in 1946. He's played in a variety of settings since then, and has always returned to the trio format (he formed his first one in the late 40s, with pianist Hank Jones). This release is part of a continuing series that has teamed Brown with a variety of singers, trumpet players, saxophonists and pianists. Here the 75-year-old Brown augments his regular trio (pianist Geoff Keezer and drummer Karriem Riggins) with a half-dozen guitarists. From the snappy articulation of Herb Ellis to the big-bodied warmth of Kenny Burrell and the smooth coolness of John Pizzarelli, these dozen performances are a veritable tour through contemporary traditional stylists. The repertoire is a mix of standards and a few originals, with Burrell's gorgeous "Soulful Spirit" (dedicated to Billy Higgins) bringing the set to a close with quiet grace and emotional resonance. --David Greenberger

Advantages: great big band music Disadvantages: none
...and Spain.
Ray McVay and the Glenn Miller Orchestra also have a web site that tells you where they are playing and where you can see them, this website is very helpful as you can also place requests for certain songs should you be going to one of their many concerts or if you want a dedication at the concert. Ray McVay loves to see the guests dance in the isles.
The concert is well preformed, with great information about Glenn Miller and how the music came about. This Orchestra plays for around about an hour and a half, with a 30 minute break in the middle. The singers and the musicians are some of the best around and this is noticeable with they way that they play their instruments. All the musicians wear American Second World War uniforms.
Would I recommend?
I am little bios here as Ray McVay is my father, however, if you love Big Band...

Advantages: Amazing collaboration, so funky Disadvantages: None
...This album is truly awesome, showing some of the best guitar and drum work in the 70's in one go. Here legendary Panamanian American drummer Billy Cobham who had previously worked with Mile Davis records the album with guitarist Tommy Bolin (Zephyr, Moxy, Deep Purple etc) and keyboard player Jan Hammer who had previously worked with Cobham and McLaughlin in Mahavishnu Orchestra combine to come up with one of the funkiest albums I have ever heard.
I'm a big Tommy Bolin fan, so naturally had to check the album out. Supposedly Tommy was informed what he had to do and the album was finished in 2 days, I'd be amazed if this legend was actually true because the work is quite intricate and the album is often considered to be Billy Cobham's best work.
I've dug out a link from youtube which might encourage you to buy it, the song is Stratus...

Advantages: great guitarist and excellent lyrics Disadvantages: too much like a jamming session?
...john butler is one of the greatest guitarists i have ever heard! he is very famous in Australia, but not so much here in the United Kingdom. i first heard of him from a friend and i really love his music. the john butler trio isnt everyones cup of tea though! to some his music just sounds like a continuos jamming session. he has recently done a tour of the United Kingdom, and Grand National, is the latest cd to be relaesed by the John Butler Trio. in my opinion this is not his best cd, that would have to be Sunrise Over Sea, i personally would recommend that you bought that one first. Grand National sounds a bit like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, very full of energy....
