Advantages: Interesting and original music, oldschool hip hop breaks Disadvantages: poor sound quality at times
...of which are brilliant but especially Shake Your Rump. The combination of hip hop vibes and funky beats mixed with somewhat rude lyrics makes this a beastieboys classic. Shadrach is another crazily mixed song which includes many refreshing sounds and some mixed in vocal pieces to create a brilliantly put together masterpiece.
If I was to critique this album, it would be for the poor sound quality which is evident at times. I understand that this is an old album however and sound quality is expected to be a bit lower than modern day standards. Car thief is one of these songs, it is a good song but with a bit of better recording equipment, it could have been far better. There are times when the bass reverbs off the other instrumentals. Amateur at best!
A brilliant album overall. Would recommend to all. However for new "Beastie" fans I...

Advantages: Sublime hip-hop; nice packaging; cool bonus CD Disadvantages: Several filler tracks
...The Beasties focus their attention once more on hip-hop in their 5th LP "Hello Nasty". Stretching to 22 songs lasting a total of 67 minutes, this album has many highs and a few lows. It's a polished effort and very easy for new fans to get into.
The most recognisable track is of course "Intergalactic", thanks to extensive play on radio and MTV, and it's a great song (check out the fantastic video as well!). However, "Three MC's and One DJ" is even better and gives Mix Master Mike a chance to show off on the decks. MMM is on prime form throughout "Hello Nasty", his first album with the Beasties. His beats make a perfect backdrop for the trio's highly entertaining rap, in particular Adrock's characteristic 'whine'.
The stand-out old skool tracks also include "Unite", "Super Disco Breakin'" and "The Move". Among the more instrumental...

Advantages: Could be used as background music. Disadvantages: No musical ability whatsoever is displayed here, the album is despicably tedious.
...With latest album 'The Mix-Up', BeastieBoys tread new ground in that it's the first album the band has ever released of all new instrumental material. Whereas in the past the albums of the BeastieBoys have been littered with all the bands best rap licks, here the voices have been cut out, the computers have been left alone, and an album has been produced which utilises instruments such as drums, guitars, organ, bass, and synth. Twelve tracks are contained on this album of entirely instrumental BeastieBoys music, a change in direction for the boys and in all honesty an incredibly strange move for the band to have undertaken.
BeastieBoys have never been my favourite hip-hop artist in the world, I have however greatly enjoyed some of their music in the past and in picking up this album was expecting the music to come alive...
