At The Close Of A Century is a 4 cd compilation of 70 selected StevieWonder tracks spanning his career from 1963 up to 1996, with a 92 page accompanying booklet. StevieWonder is a soul legend and musical genius (who has won over 20 Grammy Awards) if by some remote chance you are not aware. He has been and continues to be an inspiration for many artists and many of his songs have been covered by others.
The 4 cds are in chronological order and start off with "Fingertips Pts 1 & 2", a recording of a live performance of him aged just 12, singing, playing bongos and also harmonica. The drummer happened to be a certain Marvin Gaye. This track is one of many highlights for me personally - it seems to capture the essence of soul. A young, unrefined Stevie delivers a sweet performance ...
Advantages: It's just fab, fab, FAB Disadvantages: None for me
17 great StevieWonder ballads on 1 CD. I got a really great bargain when I bought it from Ebay for £3.00 (even though I'd already got it......don't ask, I'm just very stupid and my memory's really bad - I think it must be my age. But at least I've now got one for the house and one for the car)
It contains some of my very favourites - My Cherie Amour, You are the sunshine of my life and Lately to name just 3. AND it has my very very favourite - Stay Gold. What a fab song!
It is, as always, very easy listening with Stevie's usual fantastic harmonies
What a genius this man is. This is a must have for anyone's CD collection. ...
Advantages: Possibly Stevie Wonder's greatest album Disadvantages: None in my opinion
whilst "Golden Lady" is a more straight forward love song. Despite some of the serious issues covered on the album the overriding message is an optimistic one.
On three tracks 'Living For The City', 'Higher Ground' and 'Jesus Children Of America', Stevie plays all the instruments. It must also be one of the first albums to effectively make use of a ARP synthesizer keyboard. This along with a moog synthesiser are used extensively throughout the album. It is often overlooked that Wonder was one of the first artists to effectively and fully embrace this technology.
Track List:
1) Too High
2) Visions
3) Living For The City
4) Golden Lady
5) Higher Ground
6) Jesus Children Of America
7) All In Love Is Fair
8) Don't You Worry Bout A Thing
9) He's Misstra Know-it-all.

Album Notes
In SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS, Stevie Wonder applies his inimitable vocal technique to yuletide songs, some familiar, some not, with predictably successful results. In the title song he yearns for a Christmas when "Men won't be boys/playing with bombs like kids play with toys," striking a plaintive tone not usually found on Christmas albums. Although he is hopeful that the day will come, he sings that it may not happen any time soon. The song seems eerily prescient in light of the chaotic year that would follow, Christmas 1967, when this record was released. Other high points include his joyous reading of "Little Drummer Boy," with its steadily building martial beat, and chestnuts like "Silver Bells" and "The Christmas Song," which Stevie delivers with total assurance, as well as a palpable sense of fun. He even brings a measure of soul to more sentimental numbers like "One Little Christmas Tree" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Me." The album ends on an up note in "What Christmas Means to Me," which invokes the bumping bass line of the Capitol's Cool Jerk and features a happy harp solo from Stevie.
