Advantages: Some of the best material thats come out of british heavy metal Disadvantages: The remastered version is arguably worse in terms of feel
...Somewhere in time is one of those albums that may not initially catch you over number of the beast and seventh son or powerslave. But its probably one of the best maiden have ever released since the songs are so well written and fall into place which makes it one of the most consistent albums of the band. The band use of synthesizers makes the guitars sound refreshing compared to their previous stuff. its hard to decide whether this or seventh son is truly their best album but with the amazing tracks wasted years, Sea of Madness, Stranger in a strange land and alexander the great. I would definitely recommend this to any fan of the genre and especially a maiden fan like myself. Also Check out Somewhere on Tour which is a very amazing live performance....

Advantages: A marvelous array of sounds, Maiden really let themselves experiment. Disadvantages: Not as harsh a sound on some of the songs as i like my metal to be.
...This is the first time Maiden used a synthasiser which means its a relatively new sound for them, Caught Somewhere In Time, Heaven Can Wait and Sea Of Madness are my recommendations. Vocals arent exactly stretching the lead singers voice range but the lyrics in this album are quite a lot like story telling. This and the slightly more mainstream sound mean that its great to put the cd in an just sit back for an hour and enjoy great music. If you're in need of some angry heavy metal fist pumping and headbanging (as we all are) then i would recommend you try one of Maidens earlier albums. This album still holds its own though and is worthy of the Iron Maiden symbol it carries along the top....

Advantages: Excellent guitar work from Murray, Smith & Harris; great vocal performance from Dickinson; classic cover; enhanced CD videos Disadvantages: The turkeys
...Originally released in 1986, “Somewhere in Time” is perhaps the best studio album ever recorded by the standard bearers of British heavy metal and inspiration to a generation of long-haired youth worldwide, Iron Maiden. Featuring as it does the Maiden holy trinity of the Adrian Smith & Dave Murray twin axe attack, the distinctive jangling bass of Steve Harris, and of course the unmistakeable whispers and screams of Bruce Dickinson, it showcases everything that is good about the band – and everything that is bad too. The first time that I heard this album was not long after I had been “converted” to rock in general; my roommate at university was a big fan of Van Halen, and I was shocked to discover such talent in a genre I had previously dismissed as mere noise. Thirty pence had secured a week’s loan...
