The album opens with "Fields of Gold", it a nice, slow, peaceful song. Although Sting's version is the origional, it does pale in significence to Eva's soulful interpretation.
"Wade in the Water" is more jazzy than the previous track, with the most obvious instrument being the trumpet, and although I didn't really think that I liked this song, I still can't listen to it without tapping my foot to the beat.
"Autumn Leaves" has a similar feel to it as "Fields of Gold". It's a lovely track which possesses the familiar echoey quality of Eva's voice along with a satisfying acoustic feel. the addition of a tinkling piano towards the end completes the track perfectly.
"Songbird". I love this one. The additional background vocals make this track superb and add a depth to the song which I haven't heard in anyone else's music. With the same kind of music style as the first and third songs I was begining to notice a pattern and expected another jazzy number to follow....
....but was pleasantly suprised by "Time is a Healer". It has a gospel quoir type of feel. Again not one of my favorite tracks but it has some nice moments in it. (I'm just not too fond of the bits in between.)
"I know you by Heart". I can only describe the begining as sweet. And then the middle as warm. A beautiful song emphasised with an acoustic guitar and backing vocals. This is one of my favorites and by the end I felt so calm I could have fallen asleep....
....but "People Get Ready" is a superb song to wake you up. It's a great upbeat tune without being boistrus. It builds up nicely (like a train) and leaves you with a really good feeling inside.
The last track sums up, in my opinion, perfectly. A nice familiar song which most people ascociate with Eva Cassidy. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" will leave the listener feeling really mellow.
In conclusion this album is great! If you don't want to buy the full collection of Eva Cassidy's work then just buy this album, it has some of her best stuff on it.
