American celebrity. She's no major-label diva, though--after being unceremoniously dumped by Warner Brothers when her first two albums didn't sell, Shepard was plucked from a tiny stage by David E Kelly, the creator of Ally McBeal, and within a year had attained stardom as Ally's muse, forever hovering in the background with a musical truism and some scraps of wisdom. Fans will be disappointed that Heart & Soul doesn't include McBeal theme tune Searchin' My Soul but there's much else besides; a strutting duet with Al Green, on "To Sir With Love", the world-against-the-girl blues of "World Without Love" and the bouncy pop of "Confetti". A collection of reserved, polished white-soul songs that are pleasingly lacking in bombast, pretension, or rough edges; this is perfect listening material for America's most neurotic lawyer. --Louis Pattison

spell--more than a decade's worth of touring, and three previous albums to be precise--before getting to grab the brass ring via the hit TV showAlly McBeal. This disc reprises most of the cover songs Shepard performed during the series' first year, from the ubiquitous "Hooked on a Feeling" to a lovely reading of the 1960s nugget "Walk Away Renee". But to Shepard's credit, the smattering of originals don't suffer too much in comparison: in fact, her "Searchin' My Soul" is one of the album's strongest moments.--David Sprague

Advantages: Beautiful voice, sweet and soulful Disadvantages: A few tracks which I think dont fit the mood of the album very well, not many though
...melodic album. There are songs on this album, particularly "Baby don’t break my heart slow" and "I know him by heart" that are sung form the heart and are sure to bring a lump to the throat of many a woman in love, out of love or just plain sensitive.

Advantages: nice songs, great lyrics, Ally mood! Disadvantages: don't know if there's any
...listen it and sing along! Songs are pretty good too, they have that rhythm they're pretty guick and all! And of course Vonda Shepard has a great voice. There's lots of classics featuring in this album, lots of cover versions, but I like them. Ally has the best music of all tv series, that's partly because of Vonda! ...

Advantages: Very easy listening and signing music Disadvantages: Don`t just listen once to it
When the hit programme "Ally McBeal" was imported onto U.K. T.V. a few years ago I was stunned to hear the music and in particular the singer who featured less prominently then than she does now.I couldn`t wait for the credits to roll at the end of the show to find out her name-Vonda Shepard.
I am no youngster but I do have varied tastes in music and I was truly captivated by her amazing voice.I always consider it a special day when I have "discovered" ... ...one of those few that are allowed air-time on my car cassette deck!
She has made two albums featuring tracks from the show and following these successes came out with "By 7:30" in mid 1999.I have to admit to being a little disappointed at first with a few of the tracks but it really grows on you after a while and it is now the most played tape in my car.
I must be able to sing-a-long as I drive,no doubt getting funny looks from other drivers. This ...

Advantages: Great music Disadvantages: Mainly sad music
...It contains all the great songs from "Ally Mc Beal", the friendly female lawyer with the big heart, who always has bad luck. In the TV show the songs are played in the bar, which the characters visit after their work.
All of the songs have nerly the same style, they are normally soul music or pop. Most of the songs deal with love - Allys big problem.
You shouldn`t play it on party, but it may help if you are unlucky in love or you just want to ...

...better. With a mixture of songs you can bop along too and beautiful ballads this is an excellent album. All the songs are very uplifting and cheerful…. Great for brightening your spirits. Vonda Shepard has an amazing voice and proves she is also a great lyricist with the song “Maryland” which rounds off the album. Of course you also have Ally’s own theme tune “Tell Him” which is really uplifting. Not a classic album but great fun!! ...

...an amazing voice and the songs on the album are quite remarkable.
The most popular song on the album I guess would have to be 'Read your Mind', where I envision Ally McBeal getting dressed and singing into her hair brush, does that sound about right?
Well, that's the song that reminds me of the stressed out Ally!
This is a great album for when you're having a night in with a glass of wine. ...

Advantages: 14 Songs last well over an hour Disadvantages: Lacks the theme song I love - check out the first volume for that one...
The second volume of songsfrom the hit show AllyMcBeal includes a range of music by VondaShepard, the show?s singer. With duets with Stars such as Al Green and Emily Saliers, this album offers a variety of fast, funky, fresh music with some old, slow favourites thrown in for good measure. Being a fan of the TV show I purchased this album so that I could listen to the music as well as watch the show, and I
recommend it to any Ally / VondaShepard fan who, like me, watches the show every week. ...
Advantages: Lots of excellent cover versions Disadvantages: A few mundane tracks
Vonda Shepherd is back, this time with her selection of songs (mainly cover versions) from the second series of AllyMcBeal. To be fair it is a pretty decent album.
An interesting transistion from the album which accompanied the first series is that this album is geared more towards Shepherd than the show. She appears a great deal more on the album sleeve and inlay card than on the first album, although on occasion she does share space with Calista Flockhart. Again most of the songs are covers, but Shepherd has an upbeat sound all of her own.
Perhaps it serves to show that Shepherd is as vital to the show as any actor/actress now. Her songs frame the story, but they are excellent in their own right. ?Vincent?, ?Crying? and ?What Becomes of the Brokenhearted? are probably the best tracks on the album, but it is one you can listen to ...
Advantages: Original songs by Vonda Disadvantages: Too many covers
Heart and soul is the second soundtrack from the TV show AllyMcBeal. And it has to be said has some better songs on it than its predecessor. They're mainly heart rending songs with beautiful lyrics written by Vonda shepherd the musical star of the show. And some cover versions of mainly older classic songs such as Starry Starry night, Someday we'll be together, To sir with love, Crying and What becomes of the broken hearted.
This album is made for fans of the show who have heard them playing in the background of the scenes or hopeless romantic who need a nice slow tune to settle down with on their sofa. I would recommend the first AllyMcBeal album for them as well, because this also has some lovely songs on it. ...
