Sons Of Odin, The (+DVD) - Manowar

...Manowar - Gods of War Another band that my son has asked me to listen to. ~~A bit of background~~ Apparently they are officially the Worlds loudest band and have played the worlds longest heavy metal concert....I got this info from Wikipedia before having a listen.....I was already thinking that they may not be for me. They are heavy metal in the old style, and concentrate on the fantasy and war type songs, well look at the track listing and you will see what I mean. The album was released in 2007 and has added to their 10 million plus sales worldwide (and I had never heard of them). I laughed somewhat trying to read the CD booklet which is in Norse type writing, and there is a Norse translation at the end of the booklet, pretentious mothers!! ~~~The Tracks~~~ 1. Advantages: Metal at its most bold and uncompromising.
Disadvantages: Some really, really bad decisions.

...'Kings of Metal' has all the makings of a self-consciously definitive Manowar album, like the Black Album was for Metallica. Now forming the centre of their discography, it does indeed represent pretty much everything Manowar is about: the good, and the incredibly bad. The style is a seamless blend of their earlier, more traditional heavy metal style, and the delusions of Wagnerian grandeur that have only increased in the twenty years since, culminating in the tedious embarrassment of their most recent concept effort 'Gods of War.' On first listening to 'Kings of Metal,' the same overarching themes appear to be present: songs of Odin, Viking conquest, and drinking thy last ale, but elsewhere the subject matter returns to the other characteristic Manowar staples with songs about bikes, women and the glory of Manowar itself. ...The year is 1996 and the world is delighted to recieve Manowar's 8th album. This is probably the most cheesiest heavy metal band in the history of mankind with their cheesy lyrics and clichés, but they still know how to make great music. I've heard a few Manowar songs before, but none of them really managed to grab my attention. A week ago I had the fortune to listen to this album by Manowar and I was blown away. From the intro blast of "Return Of The Warlords" to the end notes of "The Power" it is an album to be respected by all. The album starts "Return of the warlord" which is excactly what you would wait from these guys. Dimaggios galloping bass, power chords and Adams' original amazing vocals all over the place and of course a very catchy chorus.
