The Sopranos television series was one of the few television highpoints of the last few years. The series is clever and unique as is this soundtrack.
The uniqueness of this CD is apparant when reading the tracklisting, how many compilations would have Bod Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Nick Lowe and the Eurythmics on the same CD. while some people may think this eclectic mix a weakness in a compilation, I preferred it. the reason being listening to this CD was an education, before this i had never heard of Alabama 3 or R. L. Burnside, however, listening to their tracks on this compilation ("Woke up this morning" and "It's bad you know" respectively) it encouraged me to make an effort to listen to more of their stuff.
This soundtrack is dark and brooding, perfectly mirroring the television series. The onlt problem with this compilation is that there are so m any other songs that i have heard on the television show that I wish were on it, surely a volume 2 must come out soon!
