Mr. Brown's Sunday Morning Soul

Advantages: A strong mix of tracks
Disadvantages: Inconsistent

"Mr. Brown" is the second solo album from the Georgia Soul singer, Sleepy Brown. Heavily-associate with the Hip Hop acts in the area, such as OutKast, Dungeon Family and Goodie Mob, Sleepy Brown got his name up with big collaboration with these acts and producing for them as part of Organized Noize before comiong up with his first big label album in 2006. 1. "I'm Soul" We are kicked of in a big way with a gentle one from the artist. It has him ease his way inot things by coming with a track which has him work withvery little in the way of lyrics, and simply repeat the chorus for the majority of the thing. Despite it lengthy duration, he keeps the listeners engaged from start to finish with it. **Four Stars** 2. "Margarita" This is the main single off the album and has Sleepy work alongside The Neptunes for an up ...

Review of Mr. Brown [PA] - Sleepy Brown

Reggae-Rock-Funk-Soul-New Wave

Advantages: The excellent U.K Top 20 hit, Private Life
Disadvantages: The dated, album track, Bulls***

In the late 1970's Grace Jones became something of a Disco Diva as she burst onto New Yorks club scenes with Disco hits such as I Need A Man and Do Or Die. However in 1980 following a new record deal with Island Records, home to various Reggae acts, Jones achieved further mainstream recognition with the superb Warm Leatherette album. Grace Jones shifted musical direction for the Warm Leatherette (1980) project, divulging into a diverse blend of sounds and styles ranging from Reggae, Rock, New Wave, Funk and Soul. The finished results were some of Jones most compelling recording work. This album was not least aided by the excellent production skills of Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin as well as the startling muscians behind her with Sly Dunbar on drums, Robbie Shakespeare on bass guirtars, Barry Reynolds and Michael Chung ...

Review of Warm Leatherette - Grace Jones

The Original Soul Sisters

Advantages: Soulful, genuine, funky, rare
Disadvantages: None

of MTV-friendly rubbish. Quite brilliant Mark: 5/5 YKSMIWSS: "I know you could possess my body and make me scraaaaawl" **7. Jody Gayles: You Gotta Push** A chugging track very similar to James Brown's music. Another song with below average production and the track suffers slightly from that. The guitars nag as the bass comes in and out, but it's the beat and percussion that still the show as they're extremely inventive and impossibly funky. Mark: 3/5 YKSMIWSS: "I love you and every dog has it's day/But you've just got to meet me halfway" **8. Gladys Knight: Who Is She (And What Is She To You?) Possibly the most fanous soul star on here, is the old Motoen regular Gladys Knight, complete with her Pips. A great beat starts this off (I'm sure it's been sampled somewhere) and more porn keyboards and guitar come in. Gladys is on top ...
