"Mecca And The Soul Brother" was the debut album from Pete Rock & CL Smooth. The New York producer/MC combination (taking from the likes of Eric B. & Rakim, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo and Gang Starr) has the duo perform lots of classic Jazz and Soul-influenced Hip Hop to contrast from other conflicting Hip hop movements which were in effect around this time. 1. Advantages: Perfect mix of melodic and harsh vocals, great lyrics, great musically

the bridge of the song where it goes to a bit of a post rock sound with the repeated lyrics of "Strike a match and burn away, every tie that binds me to this place" sung with the melodic vocals of Dallas, before heading back into the chorus of the song. Fourth song on the cd is "Boiled Frogs" which much like the previous songs is upbeat and has a catchy chorus. Four songs in and the cd is getting better as it goes on. "We Are The Sound" is another fast song and keeps up the energy that the previous 4 songs delivered, and lyrically probably one of the best songs on the cd.
