The thing I love most about this album is the way it can be played in the background and doesn't impose itself on whatever you are doing. I managed to play the album all the way through and get through quite a lot of work - the music acted as a relaxant which is quite hard to find these days in other artists. The CD was released quite a while ago (1993 I think) and a lot of these tracks can be found on other albums but what better to have them all on this one!
Barry is quite an unlikely sex symbol but any man who can sing like he does can melt my heart any day!

A little background on Barry can be found on the insert for the album which is only 2 sides.
The album contains 13 chocolaty songs (list missing from Amazon) and shown in the CD cover - the brown tones add to this seductive chocolate feeling.

It's Only Love Doing Its Thing 8. Bring Back My Yesterday 9. I've Got So Much To Give 10. You See The Trouble With Me 11. Playing Your Game Baby 12. You're So Good, You're So Bad 13. Oh Me, Oh My (I'm such a lucky guy)

I managed to play the album all the way through and get through quite a lot of work - the music acted as a relaxant which is quite hard to find these days in other artists. I didn't even realize the whole album had already played once and began again!
The only song I probably knew on the album was the first track - I didn't even know it was Barry White who had written the song! I knew it from Lisa Stanfield's version but Barry's is quite different. Each track on the album is quite long but I haven't been bored by hearing any of them. 'You See the Trouble with Me' was another song I had recognized and one I already had on a compilation album.
Luckily Barry's style doesn't alter in the songs or it wouldn't be the same. These songs blend perfectly together and although the tempo isn't that fast, they are still very enjoyable tunes.
If you don't like Barry's previous releases, then I probably wouldn't recommend this album to you but for those that have heard and liked that soul music, I would say you have to get this!

Advantages: A cheap way to get all the hit singles on one CD Disadvantages: Some weak tracks and it is out of date now
and it's a cover version of a Valentine Brothers song though this version is seen as more enduring, despite being almost a carbon copy. It's a dark gritty tale. "I've been laid off from work, my rent is due". A fine start to a long career.
The sexy "The Right Thing" is next and it's a really funky explicit song about seduction.
Track 4 "It's Only Love" is a soulful late night kind of song, similar to a song you might expect from BarryWhite; indeed it's possibly a cover. A woman is being a little less than forthcoming with her affection and this is a song to ease her conscience. "There's nothing wrong with the way we're carrying on, so enjoy and live, because it's only love doing its thing".
Track 5, "A New Flame" is a song which is fast in some places and slow in others. It's a great tune about feeling that love won't knock ...
