The Last of the Mohicans is one of those strange occurrances when a composer has been replaced by another in mid-production. Trevor Jones was originally hired for the job for which he wrote his arguably best known theme. As a show Les Misérables is flawless. It has a captivating story that keeps you hooked which is displayed in a wonderful musical. One problem often associated with musicals is the lack of originality, shows, too often, consist of two or three individual numbers with the rest of the musical being filled with reprises or slight variations. Although there are songs like this in Les Miserables it doesn't seem so bad because the variation really is different! ... ...is the same, however, because of the different moods in both of the pieces they seem different. In other occurences where the tune is re-used, enough decoration is added to the songs to make them seem original. As for this specific recording; the cast is mainly very strong. The role of Valjean is portrayed by Colm Wilkinson, the person who 'created' the role. His antagonist, Javert is also portrayed very well as Roger Allam's voice is superbly suited ...

When I got home and listened to the whole thing there was not a single song which I didnt enjoy. In fact after listening to the soundtrack I went back and bought the film knowing that I would like it. The film is very moving and I would recommend it to anyone. The plot concerns a young doctor Maggie (Meg Ryan) and an Angel ... ...while Maggie is operating on him, she cant see him but he is drawn to her. He decides that being an Angel isnt enough and he falls to Earth to be with her. I wont ruin the film for anyone who hasnt watched it but the consequences are tragic and the soundtrack complements the film perfectly.
The mood of the different songs are varied - There are emotional songs e.g Angel by Sarah McLachlan, I Grieve by Peter Gabriel and I know by Jude.

Inspired by some of the songs that were performed in the third season of Ally, I decided to buy their Christmas CD "A very Ally Christmas". I got it from play.com for 5.99 with free delivery. That's the best offer I could find on the internet, but I'm happy to get advice where to look next time... ;-)
The CD was just delivered today and has since ... ...roommate Renee in the series Ally McBeal. Those of you, who have seen a few episodes will know that she isn't very reluctant to perform the one or other song on stage. So therefore my expectations were fairly high, and I'm sorry to say that they weren't quite met. Her voice sounds rather squeaky and this song surely doesn't show her full potential.
