Advantages: Great musical; very strong cast Disadvantages: Not the full recording; some weak voices
As a show Les Misérables is flawless. It has a captivating story that keeps you hooked which is displayed in a wonderful musical. One problem often associated with musicals is the lack of originality, shows, too often, consist of two or three individual numbers with the rest of the musical being filled with reprises or slight variations. Although there are songs like this in Les Miserables it doesn't seem so bad because the variation really is different! ... ...is the same, however, because of the different moods in both of the pieces they seem different. In other occurences where the tune is re-used, enough decoration is added to the songs to make them seem original. As for this specific recording; the cast is mainly very strong. The role of Valjean is portrayed by Colm Wilkinson, the person who 'created' the role. His antagonist, Javert is also portrayed very well as Roger Allam's voice is superbly suited ...

One of the most historic and successful shows produced by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice. This recording pre Madonna's film version still remains a classic and a sure fire hit. ...to Quentin Tarantino's breakthrough movie Pulp Fiction is arguably one of the best soundtrack albums you'll ever hear. Like Tarantino's other movie soundtracks like Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, it combines a few great songs that were past hits with tracks that most music listeners have never heard before. Unlike those soundtracks, Pulp Fiction is great from beginning to end with the more obscure tracks being arguably better than the more established ... ...hits are very strong. Kool & The Gang's "Jungle Boogie" is one of the best funk jams from the '70s. Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" is '70s soul at its best. Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell", Dusty Springfield's "Son Of A Preacher Man", Ricky Nelson's "Lonesome Town", and the Statler Brothers' "Flowers On The Wall" with its catchy chorus are also great tracks.
This a great soundtrack to what was arguably one of the best movies of the '90s. ...

...from the TV series The Thorn Birds.
The TV show was based on the 1977 novel by Colleen McCullough. A best seller at the time and impulsive viewing for ITV viewers in the UK in the early/mid 1980s. The programmes was set on a fictional farm - or "sheep station" in the Australian outback in pre-war days and focussed on the dramas that unfold and develop around the Clearys, a millionaire family.
Over the years, various deaths, crises and disasters ... ...58 tracks from the original Thorn Birds soundtrack. Whereas the music may not help the ladies with the swooning over Richard Chamberlain, as the early 80's hearthrob, the tracks do take you emotion memory back to the programme.
The hauntingly beautiful tracks were scored by Henry Mancini (to me, from Pink Panther theme music fame!)
If you remember the Thorn Birds and are prepared to be taken back to 1930s Australian outback... without images of ...
Advantages: It lets you give your own interpretation to the music Disadvantages: Sometimes it is better to see the picture first
Music is the eyes of the soul. John Barry paints scene by scene
pictures for you in which you can imagine the huge liner itself.
Certain instruments indicate happiness or sadness while others
indicate diaster, trauma, the world in which the crew and passengers
have to cope. You are brought into a world through musical introductions to the main story by the light and shade of the orchestra.
It is up to you to decide your emotions regarding this ...
