I loved every minute of this album. The songs are so catchy and incredibly brilliant! I can definitely see why it won a Grammy in 2004 for the best compilation soundtrack album. Advantages: Lots of up-tempo music
Disadvantages: Sounds too much like a solo Minnelli album

The Act is a musical by my favourite Broadway team of songwriters, John Kander and Fred Ebb, and yet I always find it a little disappointing. Famous for writing Cabaret, Chicago and New York, New York, the two of them supplied a series of star turns for Liza Minnelli, as a nightclub star, and hence the C sounds very much like a Liza album, with a couple of other tracks thrown in. The songs aren't bad, and some of them are rather good indeed. 'Arthur ...
...perfectly by Liza, and the number sung by the chorus members (presumably while Liza had forty winks to get her breath back), 'Little Do They Know', works very well as an insiders view of being a Broadway-type dancer. There is also a lovely ballad called 'My Own Space', which Minnelli carries off fairly well. Unfortunately, the rest of the CD consists of a parade of up-tempo, 'life is great (or if it's not, I'm going to act as though it is)' numbers ... Read review

Advantages: a great film, catchy music
Disadvantages: quite a dark film to watch

...With Johnny Depp playing Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham Carter playing Mrs Wilhemina Lovett, you can't go wrong. Depp's singing voice is so husky and gritty, so well suited for the part, where as Carter's singing voice is somewhat sweet and innocent for the most part, it really gives the character a twist. Without giving any detail of the film and it's story/endings away (that wouldn't be fair to those of you who have yet to see it) I can confirm ... Read review

Disadvantages: Some of the cast's voices are not quite up to scratch

This amazing soundtrack includes 20 great tracks recorded by the actual cast! When we heard Johnny Depp would be doing his own singing on the tracks, we were unsure as to how attuned his vocal chords were, but as it has become evident with the soundtrack and the film, his voice is just right for the part! The best 3 tracks of the soundtrack are Johanna, By the sea and not forgetting, the soon to be classic, A little priest, which is the comical pinnacle ... Read review

I recently reviewed the film Love Actually in which I wrote of what a great film, I thought it was, and that it was different in the way that there were so many stories going on all at one, however it did not make it confusing in any way, shape or form. One of the other reasons, what makes Love Actually a great film is the soundtrack. A film can be great, however without the right songs in the appropriate places, it can actually spoil the film. ...
...within the film, majority of them being very well known, which makes it even better if you know the song, you are more likely to associate yourself with the film more and appreciate it. Although Love Actually has been around for quite a while now, the songs on the soundtrack are very well chosen and make listening to the album easy, because they are a great variety of tracks.
