Danny Elfman is the best at what he does

Advantages: you know that you are getting the best
Disadvantages: i think he does work best with Tim Burton, so is't not a disadvantage here

...most remarkable aspect of the Edward Scissorhands score is its ability to tell a story in and of itself. The album takes you on the journey of this fable with masterful precision. Emotions are never absent --nor are the fairy tale thematic and choral elements. Is That It?

Advantages: Great music, showcasing Jackson at his best
Disadvantages: Not a soundtrack album, just a marketing tool

The cinematic release opens it up to more people than had tickets for the shows at the O2 and whilst we may only get to see the rehearsals rather than the full on show, it’s a last opportunity to see Michael Jackson doing what he has always done best – put on one heck of a show. ...“Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”. This is a great high tempo pop tune with a funky bass beat that it wonderfully typical of much of Jackson’s output. It bounces along wonderfully and it’s the kind of song that gets your feet tapping. That said, at just over six minutes long and containing a number of repetitions of the chorus, it does get a little repetitive after a while, as there isn’t a lot of variation in either the music or the lyrics. Amazing Soundtrack

Advantages: Good Music, Good number of tracks.
Disadvantages: The "first song" is just a narrative, but you can easily skip it.

I got this soundtrack because the movie was so... in lack of other words: delicious. This CD was the best soundtrack all summer long. I love the wide gap of music ranging from the Smiths to Hall and Oats to Feist to Regina Spector. Not to mention Simon and Garfunkel. This large group of music only increases the quality. This was a GREAT soundtrack in my opinion. There are only a few problems as far as I can see. The first is the fact that the first ...
...in the beginning of the movie. This, however, can easily be skipped or unchecked in your iTunes. The second problem is the mood swings. It goes from happy to sad. These swings aren't too major, but are notable. Overall, it was a good buy. I'd also like to add that 16 songs is a good size for any CD, especially a Soundtrack.
