Jack's Monkee madness

Like the Head film itself this album sticks the boot into the cheesey teen hero image the monkees had, and the film and album achieved this successfully with Peter Tork leaving before making any further new recordings and the hits drying up - probably as Jack Nicholson (co-producer of the film and cd intended. The cd itself shows both sides of the group with top quality songwriters (Carole King / Harry Nilsson) ...
...with Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork each contributing 2 songs each as well. On the performing front the album proper shows each Monkees has their own gang who played on their songs, but the bonus tracks on the rhino issue show the group playing a blistering version of "circle sky" showing exactly what they could do. A soundtrack for music lovers

Advantages: Classic Music
Disadvantages: Tough question..depends on how much you liked the movie

...and for a movie like Almost Famous necessary but like I said typical choices for films! What i do like about this soundtrack though is that it contains songs sung by the band and highly referenced (the journalist refers to Fever Dog as one of the best songs the band have worked on so far so it's nice that we get to hear this song) in the actual film like Fever Dog. ...I've been addicted to this album since I bought it, Cameron Crowe always seems to get the right music for his movies and this is a perfect example. Love this soundtrack and thats coming from someone who doesn't usually buy soundtracks- I like to stick to album from the bands i know and like, mixing artists and songs isn't a usual for me but I definitely made the right decision with this CD!! Disadvantages: generally appeals only to HSM fans

A Beautiful but Mysterious Story, Definitely Maybe...
