Grease is THE word! Advantages: Fun! Disadvantages: None! If you've seen the movie, and love the music in it, pick up this single disc reissue of the original classic 2-LP album. I have the original record album and played it quite frequently. It's good to hnag on to, but in the past year I bought this single disc and don't have to worry about this getting worn out. All the original songs from the film are here. The songs are done in the style a typical '50s rock'n'roll song or ballad. The title track ... A great recording of a great show Advantages: Great musical; very strong cast Disadvantages: Not the full recording; some weak voices As a show Les Misérables is flawless. It has a captivating story that keeps you hooked which is displayed in a wonderful musical. One problem often associated with musicals is the lack of originality, shows, too often, consist of two or three individual numbers with the rest of the musical being filled with reprises or slight variations. Although there are songs like this in Les Miserables it doesn't seem so bad because the variation really is different! ... ...is the same, however, because of the different moods in both of the pieces they seem different. In other occurences where the tune is re-used, enough decoration is added to the songs to make them seem original. As for this specific recording; the cast is mainly very strong. The role of Valjean is portrayed by Colm Wilkinson, the person who 'created' the role. Barry Manilow's Copacabana Advantages: Brings back the memories of the show, great if you havn't Disadvantages: n/a Barry Manilow's Copacabana was welcomed with great enthusiasm when it hit the West End as a Musical. I was lucky enough to see this musical and it has gone down with me as one of the best I have ever seen, and I have seen a few. You may wonder how a song like Copacabana could be made into a musical, but with over 2 and a half hours of great music, Copacabana was just the tip of the Iceberg. The music in this show was full of energy, humour, some ... ...lyrics . The Copacabana Story Stephen (Gary Wilmot) is writing a song, it is about a showgirl based in the Copa, a nightclub from 45 years ago just after World War II, as he decides on her name "Lola" we are taken back to the year 1947 where a girl named "Lola" from Oklahoma arrives by train at Grand Central Station. Blood Brothers Advantages: Compelling listening Disadvantages: You can't get the songs out of your head!! ...a performance of Blood Brothers without crying (which has been quite a few times!!) and the soundtrack brings back many of those feelings! Is there a City of Angels? Advantages: Amazing Music Disadvantages: some repetition ...hometown, and it is called City of Angels. Firstly- I'm going to point out that I'm not referring to the Nicholas Cage film of the same name!
