Advantages: Beautifull, compelling Disadvantages: Needs time and a calm surrounding to be best listened to
Aspects of Love is one of my favourite Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. It is a thoroughly composed, tematic musical that is best seen on stage or listened to in one run. The tematic character of the music gives you a very good undestanding of what is actually happening in the story and on the stage - although it makes it less suitable for listening to in the background whilst doing something else.
It came at a point in Andre Lloyd Webbers career when ... ...wanted to make something more intimate, which he succeeded in doing with this show.
After this show Lloyd Webber wrote several shows which were less successfull, with rather boring music. His lates musical, The Woman in White, has been much more accalimed, and is also the musical I consider most in style with this one - a detailed, fascinatingly tematic score with a story that makes you interested in the characters and their lives.
The singers ...
Advantages: Suitable for all the family Disadvantages: Can be addicting
...The first time I saw Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat was in early 2000 in Thailand. But I only had a glimpse of the beginning. Since it wasn't available in Thailand it wasn't until 2007 that I got my own copy and watched the full version. To start, Donny Osmond made a nice rendition of the familiar Any Dream Will Do and all throughout the movie I think his performance was just absolutely head-turning. Maria Friedman's narration creates ... ...I've seen the DVD several times and everytime I feel more excited. The application of different musical genres from Afro to rock, hip-hop and pop were all cunningly devised to create variation, cultural fusion, revelry and surprises as if using different fabrics woven to create a masterpiece of tapestry. That's why I never get tired of watching the DVD myself. The overall casts were all splendid. Everyt ...
Advantages: Andrew Lloyd Webber AND Jim Steinman Disadvantages: If you have not seen the musical it may not make sense
...away with him.
The song Whistle down the Wind is sung hauntingly several times. I defy you to hear it and not sing or whistle it.
There is funny songs, sad songs, good ole rock 'n roll so you can tell there is something for everyone here.
The saddest song - "If only", the funniest song "Annie Christmas".
The liveliest song "Tyre Tracks and broken hearts"
Whatever kind of music you like, if you like musicals you will love Whistle Down the Wind. ...
Advantages: fun, diverse Disadvantages: slightly corny in places
This is a fun album , a collection of alternate versions of songs from this musical.
The different styles of music bind the story together very well. They set about bringing about the "innocence" of the children in a playful calypso melody sang by Donny Osmond (When children rule the world) to the "darker", more edgy rock music portrayed in the biker's song (tire tracks) sang ,very well, by Meatloaf.
The chart topper "No matter what" by Boyzone ... ...Arena are also little gems.
This collaboration of music is unsual to say the least, but worth a listen, the diversity will keep you on toes, wondering what is going to come next and the portrayals are a nice reminder for anybody who has enjoyed this classic movie/musical.
A fun one to have on your ipod, as it is bound to capture any mood! ...
