...this is a ground breaking album and one which has deservedly won the mercury award. it mixes so many diverse genres that the album continually moves between differetn stlyes of music, reinventing itself along the way. most strikingly this album features some excellent guitar work. there is a strong spanish influence heard in the nylon string guitar sound, this is at times classical but then moves into a more south american style - effortlessly. furthermore there is some admirable work on the slide guitar, exposing the blues roots of the musicians. perhaps the most instantly recogniseable thing is the singer's distincive voice. it is as if he has been eating gravel all his life and it is lovely. buy the album - NOW... Advantages: Impressive guitar music from a great film
Disadvantages: Not enough 'real' songs to appeal to anyone but a fan

...After watching the film, I knew I had to get hold of that amazing Spanish-style guitar soundtrack - some of it sounding more like it belonged on a Spaghetti Western than on this! The album is great, if you're a fan of the film's music. It offers the guitar tracks as featured in the film, which as far as I'm concerned, are powerful and punchy. There are only a few real 'songs' on the album; for the most part, the tracks are all guitar-only. If this is your scene, and you enjoyed the film, this album is for you. For anyone who didn't enjoy the film, or who doesn't appreciate the guitar music, steer clear!... Read review

Advantages: very relaxing, double CD
Disadvantages: not much modern work

...This double CD is packed with the relaxing sound of Santana's spanish guitar. This CD doesn't include much of Santana's modern works, but I guess that means that the album is all in a similar style. This CD is a great wind down from a busy day and (unless you understand Spanish) much of it doesn't involve thinking - making it ideal for relaxation. I'm not a huge Santana fan, but I respect him as an artist, and from this compilation, even I can appreciate his talent. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoy's Santana's music, but for others it's not excellent.... Read review
