OK, so most of us probably know Lindsay Lohan from either Mean Girls or one of the latest Skinny celebs, who has been hitting the celeb news recently because of her dramatic weight loss and her new movie 'Herbie: Fully loaded'. As a musician she isn't very well recognised in the UK but some of her songs (on and off the album) can be found in her movies, 'Confessions of a teenage drama queen', ' Freaky Friday' and 'Herbie:Fully loaded'.

I found this album while browsing through HMV and as i had recognised her as a successful actress i thought i could give her singing a go as well. I have to be honest, as a teen, i love all the same kind of music so most of my cds do sound the same! I expected this to be like most other actress turn singer - pretty shocking! But it wasn't as bad as i would of expected.

^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^COVER & INLAY^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"
The cover has a central picture of the gorgeous Lindsay Loha, before the weight loss, with her name and title above and beneath her. There are a few doodles but the background is just words, and i don't think these mean anything. The backshows Lindsay with a guitar and shows track info, Computer requirements(special edition cds have 'Rumours' video on) and label and cd details.
The inlay contains pictures of her family and friends at the back, and pictures of her on the front. Inside is the lyrics to every song, production details and her Thankyou's.

1. First - 3.29
Great title for the first song! This is the theme tune for Herbie: Fully loaded (though only played over the credits). It's the story of her competing with other girls for the 'love' of a boy. Guitars start it off then Lindsay's voice suddenly kicks in. It has a Pop feel to it but some Rock thrown in to the mix.

2. Nobody 'til you - 3.37
Has a bass drum/guitar intro then a husky voice comes in, again all about 'love'.Saying that because of 'you' she has a better life. It has some of the same qualities of Ashlee Simpson's work, another pop beat but very strong bass comes through.

3. Symptons of you - 2.55
One of the slower songs of the album, starts off with a piano, very calm and serene, but gradually gets a better beat for the chorus. One of the worse songs in my opinion.

4. Speak - 3.46
The title track, one of my favourites. Starts off with whispering over the top of a bass drum and comes in with an electric enhanced voice. For the chorus it is much more of a real sound and has a big beat behind it. A great song to sing a long with and some of her best work

5. Over - 3.36
Her first UK single, although i don't think it was very well known. Another bass track with strong vocals. And carries on this way throughout the song.

6. Something i never had - 3.38
Has an acoustic guitar intro and has a natural feel to begin with but once again the bass kicks in later, her voice isn't at it's best in this song. But i love the lyrics though. Another of my faves. The bass is just for the song so i like the way it's strangely natural.

7. Anything but me - 3.16
It has an 80's feel to it i think. And the voice is slightly husky which gives it a slightly different feel to the rest of the songs on the album. At the end of the choruses there is a slight whiney-ness to her voice other wise its great.

8. Disconnected - 3.34
When first listening to this song i recognised it from somewhere. but can't put my finger on where...
It is the typical teen song, but i love it (well i'm a teen aren't i?) It has a slight ballad feel to it, well as much a ballad you can write for an 18 year old.

9. To know your name - 3.19
This is a really different song when compared to the rest of her music. It has a catchy beat to it and something that needs to be listened to really carefully. It has great lyrics again but has a lot of repetitive ness in it. Another great song tosing to.

10. Very Last moment intime - 3.28
I really don't know what to say about this song because it's really annoying but amazing at the same time? It sounds like a film track, for that teen romance scene at the end. This song is a question mark to me, because there isn't a lot to say about it.

11. Magnet - 3.14
This is the best song on the album, it starts off with the bass drum and guitar and has a lot of pauses in the tune. It's got a pretty husky voice this one! And has an 80's sound throughout. This song is probably the most grown up song when it comes to pop/rock from Lindsay. The lyrics aren't up to much but it doesn't matter because of the beat behind it.

^"^"BoNuS tRaCkS"^"^
12. Rumours 3.16
Her first song for the rest of the world, but hasn't ,made an appearence in the UK charts. Although it can be found on Windows media guide, on the media player. It's all about the war between celebs and paparazzi and has a definite teen vibe to it.

13. Rumours (full Phatt remix) 3.25
Not really much of a remix, it's just got a slightly different beat in the background and a more electric voice. Didn't do much for me.

14. Rumours (video) 3.43
This doesn't look like an 18 year old! Focusing on the press and Lindsay this video is quite good. It has a janet jacksonstyle break down -not featured in the song- for dancing, which i can is quite a simple routine.

All in all this is a good cd, it has a good teen feel to it but there are a few slightly adult tracks in there as well. Mostly a pop/rock/r'n'b genre to it, so it may of been better with a few more styles in it, but as Lindsay Lohan has proved herself as an actress i think that this cd just adds to her list of accomplishments. It ticks all the boxes in my opinion and would reccomend to most buyers. It may be worth watching a few of her movies to see what style music you are letting yourself into as they do slightly reflect her style.

Thanks for reading, please leave a rating! x x

Rumours... Are Its Good!
Review of Speak [ECD] - Lindsay Lohan by simoon69

Advantages: A little rocker of an album (dont be put off by who sings it)
Disadvantages: More variety wouldn't have gone a miss!

...beats and whispers "speak up, speak straight... from your heart". The guitars are still there but not so much. This is a very funky electro pop tune and possibly one of my favs on the album. Its very 'everyone' friendly rock, electro, pop fans the lot. 6/5 OVER The first UK single (Rumours was out in rest of world ages ago) its a semi ballad semi rocky affair. It catchy and it shows shes not some pop princess, well a typical one. It is full of ...
...tune. 4/5 SOMETHING I NEVER HAD A very acoustic ballad, this isnt middle of the road its quite atmospheric. Its not the best song and you could find this on a Natalie Imbruglia album, if wasnt on this one, its a definate grower. 4/5 ANYTHING BUT ME Electro pop rock again with this tune. This has something about it too. It could be mediocre but there is something good about it. Drum heavy compared to the rest of the album. This is ANOTHER good ... Read review

Feisty girly pop
Review of Speak [ECD] - Lindsay Lohan by  hannahmc3

Advantages: Music to dance around to
Disadvantages: Some fillers clumped together in the middle

...YOU is probably one of the strongest tracks on the album, about feeling loved up for the first time. It is another pop/rock belter with a powerful, soaring chorus. SYMPTOMS OF YOU is one of my least favourite tracks on the album. It is a more toned down, less forceful track with a mild verse and slightly boring chorus. Lindsay's vocals are good but the backing track is unimpressive and the lyrics are quite contrived - 'I'm not ill/I don't need to take a pill/To fix what you do/Cure can't come through/Cause baby all I do is suffer from/The symptoms of you'. SPEAK is one of my favourite tracks on the album; it is a full on, powerful track with loud guitars and synthesised sounds, upbeat music, a strong baseline and Lindsay in full rock chick mode, belting out the chorus. This is a real feel-good, dance around track. The lyrics don... Read review

Speak
Review of Speak [ECD] - Lindsay Lohan by  Kate987123

Advantages: Varying styles
Disadvantages: Wont last

...To be honest I first listened to this because I had seen a couple of Lohans films and was interested to see what her cd sounded like but didn't expect it to be very good. But I was surprised to find I actually liked it. Obviously it wont be to everyones taste but the style of songs does vary throughout the album. The song First, used on her film Herbie Fully Loaded has a slightly rockier edge, as does Speak, whilst Rumours is more of a club track. Although the majority of songs were not written by Lohan herself many of the lyrics do seem to apply to her life (although most of the lyrics could be applied to any teenagers life) and she seems to sing from the heart. (Throughout many of the songs, such as Nobody Til You, Symptoms of You, Something I Never Had, and Very Last Moment In Time, you get the impression she is singing about her... Read review

Speak [ECD] - Lindsay Lohan

Additional notes

Album Notes: This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Personnel include: Lindsay Lohan (vocals); John Shanks (guitar, keyboards, bass instrument); Jason Lader (keyboards, programming); Kristian Lundin (keyboards); Jeff Rothschild (drums, programming); Cory Rooney (background vocals).
Producers: John Shanks; Kara Dioguardi; Jimmy Harry.
Recording information: Poolhouse West, Encino, CA; The Village Recorder, Los Angeles, California.
Following in the footsteps of teen-actress-turned-singing-star Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan delivers SPEAK, an accomplished album of radio-ready pop. Balancing dance-floor grooves of the Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera variety with rock moves borrowed from the Avril Lavigne/Michelle Branch axis, Lohan sings with authority over razor-sharp club beats (the title track, "To Know Your Name") and amps-on-11 guitar riffs ("First") in equal measure. Along the way, she also tackles piano-driven power ballads ("Symptoms of You"), John Mayer-style jazzy, acoustic pop ("Something I Never Had"), and Gwen Stefani-esque electronica-informed rock ("Anything But Me"). Though Lohan had little to do with writing most of these songs, the lyrics are well suited to her unique situation of living in the public eye from a young age, and they often address the difficulties of maintaining close personal relationships. A surprisingly diverse and accomplished debut, SPEAK proves that Lohan has the mettle and talent necessary to compete with other young pop superstars.
