OK, so most of us probably know Lindsay Lohan from either Mean Girls or one of the latest Skinny celebs, who has been hitting the celeb news recently because of her dramatic weight loss and her new movie 'Herbie: Fully loaded'. As a musician she isn't very well recognised in the UK but some of her songs (on and off the album) can be found in her movies, 'Confessions of a teenage drama queen', ' Freaky Friday' and 'Herbie:Fully loaded'.
I found this album while browsing through HMV and as i had recognised her as a successful actress i thought i could give her singing a go as well. I have to be honest, as a teen, i love all the same kind of music so most of my cds do sound the same! I expected this to be like most other actress turn singer - pretty shocking! But it wasn't as bad as i would of expected.
^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^COVER & INLAY^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^" The cover has a central picture of the gorgeous Lindsay Loha, before the weight loss, with her name and title above and beneath her. There are a few doodles but the background is just words, and i don't think these mean anything. The backshows Lindsay with a guitar and shows track info, Computer requirements(special
edition cds have 'Rumours' video on) and label and cd details. The inlay contains pictures of her family and friends at the back, and pictures of her on the front. Inside is the lyrics to every song, production details and her Thankyou's.
^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^^"^"^"^"The Music^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^"^ 1. First - 3.29 Great title for the first song! This is the theme tune for Herbie: Fully loaded (though only played over the credits). It's the story of her competing with other girls for the 'love' of a boy. Guitars start it off then Lindsay's voice suddenly kicks in. It has a Pop feel to it but some Rock thrown in to the mix.
2. Nobody 'til you - 3.37 Has a bass drum/guitar intro then a husky voice comes in, again all about 'love'.Saying that because of 'you' she has a better life. It has some of the same qualities of Ashlee Simpson's work, another pop beat but very strong bass comes through.
3. Symptons of you - 2.55 One of the slower songs of the album, starts off with a piano, very calm and serene, but gradually gets a better beat for the chorus. One of the worse songs in my opinion.
4. Speak - 3.46 The title track, one of my favourites. Starts off with whispering over the top of a bass drum and comes in with an electric enhanced voice. For the chorus it is much more of a real sound and has a big beat behind it. A great song to sing a long with and some of her best work
5. Over - 3.36 Her first UK single, although i don't think it was very well known. Another bass track with strong vocals. And carries on this way throughout the song.
6. Something i never had - 3.38 Has an acoustic guitar intro and has a natural feel to begin with but once again the bass kicks in later, her voice isn't at it's best in this song. But i love the lyrics though. Another of my faves. The bass is just for the song so i like the way it's strangely natural.
7. Anything but me - 3.16 It has an 80's feel to it i think. And the voice is slightly husky which gives it a slightly different feel to the rest of the songs on the album. At the end of the choruses there is a slight whiney-ness to her voice other wise its great.
8. Disconnected - 3.34 When first listening to this song i recognised it from somewhere. but can't put my finger on where... It is the typical teen song, but i love it (well i'm a teen aren't i?) It has a slight ballad feel to it, well as much a ballad you can write for an 18 year old.
9. To know your name - 3.19 This is a really different song when compared to the rest of her music. It has a catchy beat to it and something that needs to be listened to really carefully. It has great lyrics again but has a lot of repetitive ness in it. Another great song tosing to.
10. Very Last moment intime - 3.28 I really don't know what to say about this song because it's really annoying but amazing at the same time? It sounds like a film track, for that teen romance scene at the end. This song is a question mark to me, because there isn't a lot to say about it.
11. Magnet - 3.14 This is the best song on the album, it starts off with the bass drum and guitar and has a lot of pauses in the tune. It's got a pretty husky voice this one! And has an 80's sound throughout. This song is probably the most grown up song when it comes to pop/rock from Lindsay. The lyrics aren't up to much but it doesn't matter because of the beat behind it.
^"^"BoNuS tRaCkS"^"^ 12. Rumours 3.16 Her first song for the rest of the world, but hasn't ,made an appearence in the UK charts. Although it can be found on Windows media guide, on the media player. It's all about the war between celebs and paparazzi and has a definite teen vibe to it.
13. Rumours (full Phatt remix) 3.25 Not really much of a remix, it's just got a slightly different beat in the background and a more electric voice. Didn't do much for me.
14. Rumours (video) 3.43 This doesn't look like an 18 year old! Focusing on the press and Lindsay this video is quite good. It has a janet jacksonstyle break down -not featured in the song- for dancing, which i can is quite a simple routine.
All in all this is a good cd, it has a good teen feel to it but there are a few slightly adult tracks in there as well. Mostly a pop/rock/r'n'b genre to it, so it may of been better with a few more styles in it, but as Lindsay Lohan has proved herself as an actress i think that this cd just adds to her list of accomplishments. It ticks all the boxes in my opinion and would reccomend to most buyers. It may be worth watching a few of her movies to see what style music you are letting yourself into as they do slightly reflect her style.
