Leona Lewis is 22 years old and from London. She shot to fame after starring in The X Factor in 2006. Thousands of Contestant's auditioned to get on the show, and in the end, only 12 people made it to the final. Every week, one Contestant was sent home with their hopes and dreams ending. However, Leona Lewis made it to the final and came first place after being mentored by Simon Cowell, securing her a £1 million record deal.
Although Leona won her record deal almost a year ago, she didn't actually release her first album, Spirit, until November 2007. This was because she wanted to work and make as good an album as she possibly could. And I definitely think she has succeeded - her album is excellent.
* A Moment Like This *
Leona's first song to be released was a cover of American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson's, "A Moment Like This" which was released on the 20th December 2006. Leona actually recorded this song before being announced the winner of The X Factor. The winner's song was released, which was obviously Leona's and an astonishing one million copies were pre-ordered before even hitting the stores.
"A Moment Like This" features in Leona's debut album Spirit as a bonus track. The song was written by Jorgen Elofsson and John Reid. The song is an emotional ballad and Leona's voice sounds incredible. You can hear the emotion in Leona's voice as this is obviously a song close to her heart as it is her first single since winning The X Factor.
* Spirit *
Leona's debut album, Spirit, became the fasted selling debut album ever in the United Kingdom and the Repbulic of Ireland which is a massive achievement. Spirit was released in November 2007 and will no doubt be a huge hit this Christmas. The album features 14 tracks, one of which is a bonus. The songs include:
1. Bleeding Love - I first heard this song after watching Leona perform on this years The X Factor. She sounded absolutely amazing live and this is what urged me to buy the album. Bleeding Love is the first single released from the album Spirit (apart from Leona's bonus track, A Moment Like This). The single was released on October 22nd and sold 490, 000 copies. The video for the song was shot in Los Angeles. The song has 6 storylines about couples in different stages of their relationships. The video and song describes the first love to heartbreak and anger. I love this song because I think the lyrics are brilliant, there is so much emotion in the song and Leona has a fantastic voice. I would like to go in to detail about every track, however, the review would be of a ridiculous length! The songs tend to be ballads just like Bleeding Love and A Moment Like This. Leona's voice is fantastic and the songs are extremely emotional. Other tracks include: 2. Whatever It Takes 3. Homeless 4. Better In Time 5. Yesterday 6. Take A Bow 7. I Will Be 8. Angel 9. Here I Am 10. I'm You 11. Best You Never Had 12. First Time Ever I Saw Your Face 13. Footprints In The Sand 14. Moment Like This I like this album so much because there hasn't been an artist like Leona in a very long time. She has been compared to the likes of Mariah Carey, who as we know, as an amazing voice and she has a similar style. Many of the songs have been written by Leona herself or other producers, although there are a few cover songs. The fact that Leona can sing so well live makes a big difference too as so many artists today lip-synch. The CD design cover has a picture of Leona's face. Inside the CD, there are messages to those that helped Leona produce the album and song lyrics. The CD disc comes in a protective plastic case. The album can be bought in many stores throughout the UK such as HMV, Virgin Megastore, Asda etc. The price varies depending on where you purchase your CD and mine cost roughly £10.00 which I think is an acceptable price.

My own personal jury is still out on Leona Lewis. I think she has a great voice but im not a big fan of talent contest winners with the exception of Kelly Clarkson, who's managed to prove she's more than just a pop puppet. If Leona is still around three albums later, I'll probably have more respect for her. Great review though. P x

You've described two of the songs but what about the others?

Not a leona fan, although they were playing her new new Cd in the hairdressers yesterday, and it didn't sound that bad, even so I doubt I'll be buying it.
