Remember the winner of the third series of the British talent show The X Factor ? Well the twenty three year old Hackney girl has finally released her debut album Spirit , after leaving fans with eleven months of waiting for it. The album includes a list of thirteen memorable tracks ; each one co-written by the singer. Spirit consists of up tempo songs such as 'Better In Time' as well as beautiful ballads such as the emotional 'Footprints In The Sand' which were this years charity Songs for Comic Relief. The Singer sometimes referred to as the 'younger version of Whitney Houston' really gives it her all on this CD. Leona puts thought and effort into each note she sings and lets her personality shine through each phrase. Here voice is powerful and her pitch is perfect along with the make-you-wanna-sing-along songs. Through her music it is easy to identify her strong passion for singing. One of my favourite songs on the album is Bleeding Love which was the debut single from the album back in late 2007. (It did really well in the Single Charts and stayed at number 1 for weeks in the Uk as well as in other countries!) Bleeding Love is an emotional , up-beat ballad.
Footprints In The Sand was also proven a hit with the British public when it went straight into number one in March. Leona has stated that she is very proud of her album and that she cannot hide how excited she is to begin work on her next album which is rumoured to be called 'Passion'.
* Leona Lewis * Leona Lewis was the winner of the 2006 X Factor. Leona was born on March 3rd 1985 and is nearly 23 years old. She was borin in Islington , London , United Kingdom. She has a younger brother and an older brother. She has been with her boyfriend Lou since she was seventeen.
* Spirit * Spirit is the name of Leona Lewis' debut album. It was released on November 9th 2007 . The length of this album is 52 minutes and 32 seconds. This album is catergorised into the R&B , Pop and Soul genre. The album can be bought from shops such as woolworths , hmv and supermarkets as well as from online stores such as www.play.com . Here I will describe a few of the songs on the album.
* Bleeding Love * This was Leona's second single and first single from this album. The single was received very well by the public and stayed at number one in the UK singles chart for several weeks! It's like an upbeat ballad if you get what I mean. I like this song , however no offence to Leona , I think her vocals sound a bit "moany" on this track. I give this song an 8/10
* Better In Time * This is one of my favourite songs on the album. It has a strong beat along with the sound of the piano. This song is great for those who have just split up with their boyfriend/girlfriend.
* Footprints in the sand * This is a beautiful ballad. Leona sings along well with the simple chords of a piano. Her voice is rich and powerful. Drums come in on the chorus. It's the type of song you can just sit down and relax to. There is a choir in the background , which sounds great with Leona. The song is quite emotional.
* Take A Bow * Beginning reminds me slightly of Destiny's Child Survivor. This song has a strong beat. It has some high notes in it that Leona manages to reaches no problem. The song slows down on the third chorus and the beat sounds quieter and then the song speeds up again.
* I will Be * Starts off with Leona singing along to a piano. Drums come in on the second verse. The third chorus reminds me of a kelly Clarkson song.
* Homeless * I think this song is similar to Christina Aguilera's "Hurt" due to the piano and orchestral music. You could imagine Leona sitting down by a piano singing this. There is something emotional about this song. It's a simple yet effective tune.
* My Opinion * I think Spirit is one of the best albums out there at the moment. The album contains a mixture of ballads and songs you can dance to. It's an album you can listen to when getting ready for a night out , for chilling out , or to have playing along in the car. Her vocals are rich and powerful ; She is just amazing to listen to , and to think that she is so young. She is like a younger Whitney Houston. This album is great for people of all ages , up-beat tracks for teens and a few ballads for adults ; there's something for everyone on here.I give this album 9/10. Us Britons should be proud of our 'Very Own Whitney Houston'. She's beautiful , talented and most probably very rich by now after the number of albums she has sold. I strongly reccommend you buy her album as it is an £8.99 well spent!
