Advantages: Raw and real Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too raw!
...So I got into Joy Division rather randomly while stumbling around my brother's record collection one day....I cannot claim to have heard them at the peak, indeed the lead singer Ian Curtis died a full six months before I was born in 1980. Championed by John Peel (R.I.P.) one only wishes that more than 2 full studio albums had been possible.
Anyhow, firstly a brief bit of background to who Joy Division are, or rather were. Starting off in Manchester around 1977 Joy Division were originally know as Warsaw, but changed their name to avoid confusion with a London band going by a similar name. Joy Division could be considered a rather vulgar name - it was the term used to describe the area in Nazi concentration camps where women were placed for "enjoyment" of the camps soldiers. Advantages: a must for any discerning joy division or new order fans Disadvantages: finding it
...The devolopment of Joy Division is best tracked here. The listener is presented with a raw Joy Division, which throughout this recording, spreads through anger, need, pain and melancoly. The Album is a delight, and one to be held in high esteem. Peter Hook's bass guitar is as clear and as resolute as it is honed and emotional. The album is a must. The essence of a band truely before there time is clearly demonstrated without a mention of New Order. Indeed, aside from, the sweeping bassline and highly emotive lyrics of 'Love will tear us apart,' the album exceeds the average listeners expectations by maintaining the same soul, the same passion, throughout the remainder of the recordings. If you havent heard Joy Division before maybe this album is not the best place to start. Indeed, don't expect to hear a wealth of popularised Joy...

...‘Closer’ by Joy Division was released in 1980 and was their third and final album before the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtiss at the age of just 27.This is the most depressing and creative album I posses, the way Joy Division created their own sound and Curtiss’s voice is so chilling it’s unreal. The song that sums up his feeling’s at the time the most is ‘Isolation’ this is my personal favourite track the intro is just class and the lyrics are amazing. Closer has no weak links when it comes to songs and Joy Division should go down in Rock History along with The Beatles etc…...
