...) I exclude the bassist because before St. Anger they changed their bassist from Jason Newstead and in fact on this album Bob Rock (producer) does most, if not all of the bass work. They do have a new bassist now though called Robert Trujillo. Oh how they miss Jason Newstead!

Following the stripped-down Load and Re-Load, they've returned to the raw, vitriolic savagery of their earlier canon, using 1984's Ride the Lightning as their template. The title track provides the psychic lynchpin of the album by combining the bombast and defiance of the band's earliest high-water marks with more deliberate lyrics and emotional nakedness. Equally cathartic is "Some Kind of Monster," a lumbering beast of a song that declares "This is the voice of silence no more". Despite that claim, there's an economy to these lyrics; James Hetfield's raw-toothed growl only occasionally punctuates the menacing soundscapes. In fact, "Dirty Windows", the standout track here, is a shimmering five-minute instrumental that's free of the baroque trappings that sometimes clutter the Metallica landscape. --Jaan Uhelszki, Amazon.com

The album comes in quite a cool case actually. It isn’t a plastic one but rather one of those fold out cardboard ones. It has the picture shown above on the front and inside is ... ...7/10
Track two- Name: St. Anger (7:21)
Probably the best song on the album, although that’s not really giving it much credit. I feel it is the song closest to the usual Metallica stuff that I like to hear. The chorus is quite catchy as is the verse, thing is though, like track one, it just repeats itself over and over for 7 minutes and 21 seconds. Also in that time there is not a hint of a ‘Kirk Hammett special’ guitar solo. If you listen to this ...

Advantages: A couple of good songs, some good headbanging guitar riffs and vocals. Disadvantages: 80% of the album is boring and samey. Terrible drumming and average vocals.
INTRO: I’lld like to assume that everyone knows who Metallica are surely, but for those cave dwellers I will explain. Metallica are a four piece heavy metal/hard rock band that were big in the 80's and 90's, and are most famous for hits such as 'ENTER SANDMAN' 'ONE' and 'NOTHING ELSE MATTERS'. Albums such as 'RIDE THE LIGHTNING' and 'MASTER OF PUPPETS' rank among some of the best rock albums ever, but they all have one thing in common, and that is ... ...band. However we're now in the 21st century and Metallica's latest effort 'ST ANGER’ fails to live up to any expectations. They had around 6 years (I think) to create this album, yet it seems like its been done in less than one for the most part, but anyway lets listen to the cd shall we. 'FRANTIC' is the first song its also the second single, and in a sense its the right word for the song, it opens out with some crushing riffs and drum rolls that ...

Advantages: Return of the kings Disadvantages: See Review
My oh my, it has been 6 years in the waiting, has involved the loss of Jason Newstead, the induction of Bob Rock as the 5th horseman, albeit temporarily, and has just recently seen ex Suicidal Tendencies, and Ozzy’s band’s bassist Robert Trujillo drafted into the band as Newstead’s replacement, and is finally here, ST Anger was unexpectedly unleashed on music stores around the globe on the earlier than originally planned date of ... ...memorable for a good few years to come, for one, it is the first Metallica album in 6 years to be released, and for 2, in many ways I suppose it is the first “true” Metallica album to be released since the Black album. I say true album, because yes Load and Reload were decent albums in their own right, however, in many aspects, they lost a hell of a lot of the emotions that made them Metallica in the first place! For the last decade many ...

Advantages: Another new direction for Metallica, very emotional showing from Hetfield, lots of extras Disadvantages: Annoying snare drum beat, production not as good as previous Metallica releases.

CONTENTS
Metallica wanted this album to be special in terms of extras, and this album is certainly that. As well as the album CD and a 26-page full colour lyrics booklet, they also threw in a "St Anger Rehearsals" bonus, region-free DVD (meaning it'll run on all players), which contains live performances of all the St Anger songs, complete with their new bassist Rob Trujillo, from Metallica's ... ...they also threw in a code to a new site, the Metallica Vault (http://www.metallicavault.com) At which people who buy St Anger can download mp3s of live Metallica shows, and also download pictures of those events. The mp3s seem to have been taken directly from the soundboard of those events, which mean that the song itself is crystal clear, even if there is minimal crowd noise.
However, as of the time of writing of this review, UK and German fans ...

Back and Angry Review ofSt. Anger - Metallicaby
a-true-ben
Advantages: 75 minutes, Metallica back on form Disadvantages: Not that varied, not a classic either
In the eighties, Metallica were a leading light of the thrash metal movement. Their self-titled ‘black album’ was seen as a sell out by some hardcore fans, although it proved a massive commercial success (I believe it’s sold well over 10M copies). When they followed this up with ‘Load’ and ‘Re-Load’ they were actually accused by Metal Hammer magazine of going ‘indie’, although that’s slightly ... ...it had been some years since Metallica last released an album. Until now.
I’ve never been a massive Metallica fan. The early thrash days were before my time anyway really, and even now I’m one of those horrible people who just owns the black album. I got the new album, ‘St Anger’ from the Oxford Student – we were sent five copies by the promoters for a competition, and let me tell you with the number of Metallica fans ...
