Right lets get one thing straight, Metallica are a metal band, thats right grandma, what was that......oh, i know they have done the odd puffy song in their time and released a couple of duff albums but the basic premise of metallicas existance is that they are a metal band, if you don't believe me, look at their name, it gives a clue.
Right lets all be honest with each other, for the past ten years i have vowed to never buy another metallica album after the tripe that they released in the mid nineties but enevitably, i was lining up outside HMV at 8:55 on the monday morning of the release.
St.Anger was no different.
On first listening at approximatly 9:30 that fateful monday morn, the first couple of tracks lured me into a metallica stupor, i thought although they were no spring chickens, they were pumping out some good stuff.
Then there was one of the worst hours of my life. I know, i know, it all sounds a bit melodramatic but hell, im a huge metallica fan.
The rest of the album is a banal trawl through songs which sound the same. Thats bad enough but when you basically have a 75 minute song, which is utter shit at that, you have to draw a line.
For a moment i just considered listing the songs and their traits but i realised it would be a complete waste of both yours and my time.

To add insult to injury, Metallica juped me aswell.

I was discussing the purchase of this album with my brother a few days before its release he said he had, had enough and refused to buy it.
I agreed.
Then i heard the first single St. Anger.
The chorus stunned me. There was mention of 'Hitting the lights' with reference to a track from their first album which had been released 20 years before. This threw a whole new light on the affair.

Metallica back from a long absence talking 'old skool'!

Could this really be a new beginning?

Bollocks.
They had just run out of lyrics.

My advice to you, the readership is simple.
Dont buy this album and line, the already gold coated, pockets of the metal fat cats Metallica.

If you have to buy something
buy: Master of puppets or ride the lightning

Equation:

Dissapointment= 1995 - present
Enjoyment= 1981- 1995

Rock on!
