Review of Best Of Silverchair Vol.1, The - Silverchair by jenks1987

Advantages: Australian Rockers with a Rebellious Sound
Disadvantages: Some Songs a Little Too Hardcore

...This Australian band that were big fans of Nirvana released “Frogstomp” at the age of 15!!! This best of is a great selection of amazing songs… its hard to believe so many good songs are written from so few albums. “Ana’s Song” sticks out in both formats. “Israel’s Song” with its very strong bass line stands out as a very rocky anthem; turn this one up nice and loud!!! “Tomorrow” is the song that rocketed there careers with some simple yet very effective riffs. Not all songs are rocky “miss you love” is gentle, on the other hand “freak” and “minor threat” have all the classic rock-esque attributes. Silverchair have youthful rebellion in this album and you can feel this in there songs. A truly raw and youthful collection of songs.... Read review

Review of Facing Future - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole by Tempus_Fugit

Advantages: big man, big voice, beautiful songs
Disadvantages: 'world music', not to everyone's taste

...stand on end and go all 'goose-pimply'. There are a number of really sentimental, tear jerking songs used over and over on TV and in movies, most of which you start to detest of after the 20th use in a death scene - I'm talking the likes of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah - I never get tired of this particular rendition of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". I never knew much about Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and had to look him up on the Internet to find out more. The problem was, I didn't know his name, only the song. But it didn't matter, the name of the song and movie or TV programme you heard it and you get results, loads of them. Israel was part of a music group for most of his early career and only in the early 1990s released solo albums. "Facing Future" was released in 1993 is said to be his best album. Israel was morbidly obese and died in June... Read review

Review of Frogstomp - Silverchair by zirconVansQueen

Advantages: Findaway
Disadvantages: nothing

...The music on Frogstomp certainly does not reflect silverchair's age when they recorded it. Tomorrow, the Generation X anthem with powerful riffs but slightly naff lyrics is still as good today as it was 6 years ago. Israel's Son, which starts the album has strong vocals and a wkd bass line and is followed by such powerful tracks as Tomorrow (their debut), Faultline and Pure Massacre (their 2nd single). Daniel's vocals on Shade are hauntingly beautiful and although a slower song it still reflects silverchair's brilliant musical talent and Daniel's songwriting genius. Leave Me Out is good but Suicidal Dream which follows it is superb. Madman is an unbelievably energetic track and one of my favorites off the album and I'm sure loads of ppl can relate to Undecided. Cicada is an ok track but my favorite out of the lot is Findaway. The best... Read review
