Paul Weller is one of those musicians who has survived the torments of Big Fame and come through the other side. Older, more mellow, he is now becoming one of a growing band of mature, bluesy singer songwriters who just might go the distance.
I love this album. It shows rich talent and musicianship, betraying Paul Weller's enormous range and experience. It shows that you don't need to stomp and smash things to create powerful, entertaining music. This is an album by an icon coming into his main power.
