Advantages: A reasonably good overture Disadvantages: The merits end there
...or twelve-tone film score for Cobweb in 1955, as well as scoring dozens of films and TV shows, including the 1978 Bakshi Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately Rosenman's approach was one of cheesy comedy and underdeveloped sci-fi. Whereas the three previous scores rode forward with their innovative instrumentation and dramatic writing, Rosenman's score is the complete opposite. Comedy rules over the drama, the future scenes are mundane and all of this makes the score so distant from the franchise that you would be hard pressed to actually identify it as StarTrek music.
That said the main theme is actually quite enjoyable. It has enough of the adventurous quality to make it sound appropriate. Some of that quality may also be attributed to the fact that it was actually a reworking of his earlier main theme for The Lord of the Rings which is one...

Advantages: Great main theme Disadvantages: The rest of the album disappoints
...The music from the excellent television series/film Das Boot (by Klaus Doldinger) stuck in my head from the first time I heard it, something like 15 years ago. I was very pleased to find a copy of this soundtrack in a second hand CD shop a couple of months ago.
The main theme is excellent, and will stick in your mind for a long time, though it is actually a very simple tune. Sadly, the rest of the music does not live up to this standard - the originaltelevision series was very long, and I would have thought that the amount of music would have been enough to fill a CD with just the best bits. ...This truely is the best Tvsoundtrack available in the shops to buy. With the Buffy theme to start with there are great songs that have never been released as singles and some that have been. All the songs have been in 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' seasons 1-4 including songs by Garbage, Hepburn, and Four Star Mary. My favourite track on the album has to be 'Already Met You' by Superfine. Rasputina also have a great track with 'Transylvanian Concubine' which Drusilla danced to in 'Innocence'. The only thing that lets the soundtrack down is thats they have the Buffy/Angel Love Theme at the end of the album, but you can put up with it. If you haven't got it yet get down the shops and buy it....
