Advantages: Sometimes hits the heights of the original series Disadvantages: Can get a bit annoying at times
StarTrekVoyager goes up and down in my affections as a version of StarTrek, the programme is different from all the other Sar Treks in that in the very first episode the ship is catapulted to the delta quadrant by a myserious force called the Caretaker who then dies, the ship is sent along with a marque (bandits) ship which was the original focus of the mission. The two ships soon realise that too get back to Earth they must come together under one ship and one commander, the captain of the Marque ship becomes voyagers second in command and its revealed that several members on both ships are in fact spies.
The ship is commanded by Captain Janeway and the crew soon realise that they are with the best of all world over 70 years away from Earth even at full warp. Janeway pulls the crew together and using the rigidity of the space ...
Advantages: A reasonably good overture Disadvantages: The merits end there
Beginning where the last film ended, StarTrek IV: The Voyage Home continues the story as Kirk and crew are in exile on Vulcan when they defied Starfleet and stole the Enterprise in order to get Spock's body away from the planet Genesis and back to Vulcan. After fighting off Starfleet, Klingons and a destructing planet they managed to get Spock back to Vulcan where they performed a seremony to reunite Spock's katra (Spock's consciousness at the time in McCoy) with his body, finally bringing him back to life. Now Kirk and the rest have decided to return to Earth and face the consequences. Piloting their stolen Klingon Bird of Prey they soon find out that Earth is being bombarded by an alien probe, scanning and vaporising the oceans in search for humpback whales, as it is soon discovered. The whales have been extinct since the 21st century ...
Voyager may have stopped production now, but how does the 4th series with the great StarTrek name comapre?
Based on a new spaceship design, the intrepid class 'Voyager' (NCC 74656) is the pride of Starfleet, until it disappears that is. After a battle Voyager finds itself flung 70,000 light years across the galaxy to the Delta Quadrant, with the only way to get home is a 70 year trip through space. So they set off on their journey, and naturally meet a whole host of creatures and cultures on the way. (And just in case anyone cares, the maximum speed warp is 9.975).
Of course, the fact that Voyager is stranded in un-charted space mean that the script writers have an open book. They are not bounded by rules that would come with the well known space that the Federation, klingons etc inhabit. New aliens could be created for the show ...
