This CD is purely magical. The cast of Starlight express are currently touring the UK, and although some of the songs are different on the tour then on the CD - u get the idea! They are same shows but done differently after all!
Back to the CD. If u are after a CD which you can sit for hours listening to then this is it. Except ur be up singing after a few listens to it.
The first song acts as an introduction with a little boy complaining to his mum, and playing with his train - exciting start but slightly confusing if you havnt heard it before.
Entry of the National Trains is also the same - a little boy introducing the trains from different countries.
Rolling Stock comes next which is the national trains singing about how fast they can be. Its not my favorite song.
The 4th Song is beutifully sung. It is softer then the first few songs and really starts the CD off. The lyrics are really cleverly written and CaronCardelle sings it really well. It is about how her Steam train - Rusty - will whistle at her and how in love she is with him.
Feight is the 5th song and is basicully a fight between the carriges (girls) and the trucks (guys). It is great to listen to.
AC/DC is the introduction of another train, electra and the music is very different in this track - more high pictched and sharp. It is quite clever the way each train has a different type of music so you can tell which kind of engine they are.
Pumping Iron introduces the champion, Greaseball who comes in to laugh and the other Carriges all come and sing with him as he is a 'Danny from Grease kinda character'.
Coda of Freight is an arguenment between all of the trains and an introduction of the character Rusty, who is the outcast. It is under 2 minutes long so a short song, but again a brilliant song.
Crazy is the song the carriges sing with Rusty who has made the desision to enter the race. In it Rusty is asking Pearl to race with him. It is a catchy upbeat song which has ypou smiling when you listen to it.
Make up my heart is the song Pearl sings to choose between Racing with Rusty or another 'big' character. It is an emotional song which is again beatifully sung, and has you listenening to every word.
Race one is the commentry to the first race.
Poppas Blues is a good song, which i don't really listen to that often as im not keen on this kind of music.
Race 2 is the commentry to race 2.
Starlight Express is the song which gives the show its name. An amazing song - one of the best in the show. It is Rusty singing misrably and calling to the fabled Starlight Express asking for Help.
The rap, is a fun catchy tune, where the trains all sing together - alhough some of the carriages get upset.
U.C.O.U.P.L.E.D is my favorite tune on the CD. It is sung by one of the carriages (Dinah) who is upset as One of the engines - Greaseball has chosen not to go in the Race with her. It starts of with the singer misrable, but by the end she is plotting revenge.
Race 3 is the commentry for race 3.
Right Place/Right Time is the song sung by the engines who are angry as there is a crash in Race 3. It is well sung but again is not my favorite style of music.
Starlight Sequence is again one of the best songs on the CD with Rusty asking for help from the Stalight Express again.
Race 4 is the commentry for race 4.
Next Time you fall in love is a song which is beutiful. Sung by Pearl and Rusty they finally get together relising that they love each other (ahh)
One rock and roll too many is quite funny. Sung by the 2 main engines - Electra and Greaseball - who lost the race. They relise how exhausted and burnt out they are. Once again the lyrics are really funny.
The last 2 songs are brilliant.
I fell in love with the music on the album almost immediantly,and have now learnt all the words, to this well listened to album! i would recommened it to anyone with any taste of music, as it has rock, pop, anda classical mix, which makes the musical come alive.
It is also avaliable very cheaply as the musical has stopped running. Avaiable on most internet stores.
