Advantages: Fast paced and topical joke telling at its best Disadvantages: DVD Extras could have been better
Jimmy Carr is obviously a man who loves his work - on a recent chat show he explained that on completing a mammoth one hundred and sixty date tour he simply starts all over again. He spends more than half his life travelling the length and breadth of the British Isles delivering his unique deadpan rapid fire style of joke telling and observations on life, love and the worlds many problems. And for me it's not hard to see why he enjoys touring so much, he seems so much at home in front of a live audience, he knows how to play to them, how to deliver his jokes with impeccable timing, always articulate and well observed. Many people will be familiar with Jimmy Carr as the host of the successful Channel four quiz show 'eight out of ten cats', but if you were expecting more of the same you may well be disappointed. This DVD represents ...
The other week I was out shopping , when I decided to have a rummage in one of the many charity shops in my local town. I find shops like these great for finding DVDs and books (quite often , in very good condition!) at a really good price , and so I find by buying these this way I save a lot of a money and get more DVDs for a £10 in the shop , than I can if I buy them on the internet.
Browsing through the huge collection of DVDs , all standing neatly on the shelves before my eyes , One with a red cover caught my eyes. 'Jimmy Carr : In Concert' was the title. I didn't really know much about this Jimmy Carr , although I remember him being a guest on a television chat show programme (I think it was Charlotte Church's show) and finding him quite funny , and so I decided what he was really like as a stand-up comedian.
Jimmy Carr is ...
I suppose this film could be shortly summarised as 'James Bond with a difference', but better. In the way 007 centres on one man, who occasionally finds a woman, this film from 2005 focuses on both the man and womans point of view, adding excitement to the action.
He is a secret assassin, but guess what! So is she! Neither know the others secret and after 5 or 6 years of being married, they are forced to attend marriage counselling, which is where the film begins. The film then looks back to how they met and shows you some of the main aspects of their lives.
Everyday marriage problems are not all what it seems with this couple. When both their respective missions cross paths, it could be disastrous for their other half, with a fight to the death their lives would never be the same again...
What matters more, love of your ...

Given its overtly wacky album photos--featuring the artist striking acrobatic poses in a white jumpsuit and helmet--listeners might think that 1968's STAY LOOSE...JIMMY SMITH SINGS AGAIN is a novelty record. The only novelty here, however, is the greater vocal presence of the revered organ player, who usually released instrumental (or mostly instrumental) discs. Smith, in fact, lends his wonderfully gritty vocals to four of the album's seven tracks. The bluesy opener, "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town," starts off with horn fanfare that gives way to Smith's raspy singing and simmering organ lines. Other vocal tracks include the energetic, funk-fueled Smith original "Stay Loose" and a shuffling, inventive take on "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby." Throughout the record, drummer Grady Tate masterfully anchors the proceedings, with tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine lending his deep, soulful playing to three tracks. Of these, "Chain of Fools" is an album highlight, and, with its urgent soul-jazz vibe, one of the finest renditions of the Don Covay classic. Of course, Smith's entrancing Hammond work is still the main attraction here, and it's nowhere better showcased than on the Smith/Turrentine-penned closer, "Grabbin' Hold," an extended jam that features brilliant interplay between the two stellar musicians.
