Album Reviews: Q (1/00, p.127) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...as rampant as a stallion...it's nevertheless greatly entertaining, the big man even committing musical adultery with 2 versions of 'The Longer We Make Love', one duet with Chaka Khan, the other with Lisa Stansfield..."

3.: Longer We Make Love - White, Barry & Chaka Khan
Advantages: Music to make love to........ Disadvantages: bit sad if your listening on your own
...All the classics are here...from the walrus of love. Theres 16 tracks most of which are classics, a couple of weak links but thats personal opinion.
Tracks include 'see the trouble with me', 'loves theme', 'let the music play' & 'never gonna give you up'. The CDs presentation is nothing special and the whole thing could be called a cash in....but if you don't own any other BarryWhite albums then this is well worth considering, if you have then theres no point unless your a die hard fan of his.
If your not a big fan of mushy love songs then I'd give this one a miss... it's full of them.
Overall I'd recommend it... its a good product nothing new but still good and cheaper than buying all his other albums...

Advantages: Loads of great songs Disadvantages: Some not so great songs
...'s in love and the love is surrounding him. It is a happy song, I guess, but the tune makes it seem sad. I think that's about it for this song.
2. But not for me - Elton John
Well, the song is less famous than the last one, but the singer is more famous. One of Elton's poorer songs, but I am one that believes Elton never has a poor song, so I would say that yes it is worse than his other songs but it is still a good song. iT's very slow, and sad. It talks about how people are writing love songs, butnot for him and how he was a fool to fall in love.He has split with his girlfriend and is sad. It is obviously Elton John as he has a very recognisable voice. The vocal, of course, is great, but the lyrics and tune bring it down.
3. You're the first, my last, my everything - BarryWhite
Another famous guy, and this time, a very famous song...

Advantages: Relaxing and always makes me feel better Disadvantages: Goes down hill a bit towards the end
...and Mary belted out a fair few of Gaye's classic ballads and dance tracks. I was hooked, but it wasn't until a few months ago that I finally bought the Best of Marvin Gaye CD - there I was in HMV, taking advantage of the 2 for £20 offer, Marvin Gaye's Greatest Hits in one hand and Leftfield's Rhythm and Stealth in the other - what an odd chap the sales assistant must have thought, but when I got the CD home - I realised what a great move I'd made in buying it.
In my opinion, the lurv masters don't come much finer than Marvin Gaye - although BarryWhite was indeed a great talent, he pales into insignificance alongside Marvin Gaye in my opinion. Marvin had an illustrious group and solo career spanning over 20 years: in his time he'd seen close friends die, numerous marriages crumble and a cocaine habit that was eventually to lead to the ruin...
