Recorded at Red Zone Studios, Studio 55, Pasha Music House, Los Angeles, California in May 1989. Includes liner notes by Mark Slaughter, Dana Strum. Slaughter emerged from the ashes of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. When, after Vincent's 1988 sophomore release, ALL SYSTEMS GO, the ex-Kiss guitarist became too unbearable to work with, singer Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum defected to form Slaughter with guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias. Where the Invasion was more or less a vehicle to showcase Vincent's guitar shredding, Slaughter focused more on songwriting, combining sticky sweet pop-metal a la Dokken and Quiet Riot with the bombastic songwriting of classic rockers such as Queen and Led Zeppelin. Their 1990 debut, STICK IT TO YA, was a surprise hit, spawning such anthemic rockers as "Up All Night" and tear-jerking power ballads like "Fly to the Angels." Both were sizeable MTV hits.
Advantages: Snappy pacing and nicely shot action. Disadvantages: Cliches aplenty and total predictability.

"StickIt" is yet another enjoyable but unoriginal addition to the teen movie genre. It presents hackneyed material in fast-paced and enthusiastic fashion and manages to make gymnastics look exciting. However, I couldn't help but wish it was a little more like Bendinger's "Bring It On" in terms of the levels of bitchiness and rivalry. It's just not quite as sharp as her previous work. Though it may not be anything new, it's the sort of film that could easily become a guilty pleasure. I wouldn't pay money to see it at the cinema, but if there's nothing else out at the video shop, you could do worse....

Advantages: Good competent crime thriller Disadvantages: Couple of holes in the plot
...Indelible by Karen Slaughter actually tells two stories within one book however the events in the present story are linked to the one set in the past so there are a series of flash backs to allow the reader to make some sense of the present day goings on.
When two heavily armed gunmen burst into a small town police station both medical examiner Sara Linton and her former husband police chief Jeffrey Tolliver are caught up in the cross fire. Tolliver is left seriously wounded and a number of his fellow officers are dead, Linton is left as one of the hostages along with two other police staff and a few school children who were on a school trip. It soon becomes apparent that this is not a random attack but a carefully targeted one against Tolliver however the identity of the two killers is a mystery to everyone. The second story takes...

Advantages: Lots of gym! Disadvantages: Not a lot of (believable) story
...~~ Nasty Gym Sticks ~~
If you're a gymnastics buff, you're probably well aware of the other gym films out there. There's Perfect Body (which only ever made it onto Region 1 DVD) and the everso similar Little Girls In Pretty Boxes (which languishes on Channel 5 / the Hallmark Channel and never got its deserved DVD release). There's a dubious one called American Anthem from the mid 1980s that was out on VHS. If you're willing to expand the gym theme to tumbling and dancing, there's also Sugar and Spice, and the 4 Bring It Ons (the latest was released on Boxing Day 2007), but these are cheerleading themed rather than "proper" gym. For a sport with such a huge fan base you'd think there would be a market for more gym films, especially of the Mary Kate and Ashley style straight-to-DVD variety, but that's all there is really that I (and...
