I was only 8 years old when I first heard a track off Sticky Fingers. It was Honky Tonk Woman, and I loved it. I bought the 45 and played it until I thought my mom would scream in anguish. How many times could I possibly have played that song over and over?
About 10 years later, I was reintroduced to Honky Tonk Woman and the entire Sticky Fingers album. Aside from being delighted by it's original and very naughty cover, I loved nearly every tune on this piece of vinyl.
I must admit that my very favorite was, and still is, Can't You Hear Me Knocking. It opens up with some powerful guitar licks and perfectly- complimenting background drum beats. The long instrumental ending is at once throbbing, then slows down, and builds back up to a teasing series mini-orgasms that end in an astounding climax. It's difficult to top a performance such as that!
Bitch does a satisfying job of easing the ache of wanting another dose of Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Although it is much shorter and to the point, it is a grinding rock and roll song that makes you want to shake your hips to the rhythm.
Dead Flowers is an interesting ditty about being dumped by a society queen and drowning sorrows "in a basement room with a needle and a spoon." How often are we still drowning our sorrows in a drink or another more acceptable vice today?
Although many claim Brown Sugar to be their favorite tune on this album, and perhaps the Stones biggest commercial hit from it, it is not the best - at least in my opinion. It's good, but it lacks the raw instrumentals and lyrics of most of the other songs.
There are some wink links on this album. I found Sister Morphine to be far too depressing. You Gotta Move seems like rolling over and going to sleep after a hot session of Can't You Hear Me Knocking. Also less-than-stellar was I've Got the Blues. It needed more force behind the vocals and the guitar work.
All in all, I'd have to say that Sticky Fingers is one of the Stones finest works.

We must be of similar ages - I remember much giggling in the playground at the "She tried to take me upstairs for a ride" lyric.
Don't agree about "You Gotta move" and "Sister Morphine" though....I actually like the Stones more in their "life is bleak and empty....deal with it" phases.

Also my favourite one. The climax is rough and sexy in most of the tracks. "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'", "Bitch", "Brown Sugar" are premium references for any newcomer to the Stones and show them at their very best, outstanding here any competition for their charismatic profile and energic grooves. Excellent opinion.
