Forest" and "Let's Go To Bed" sound a little bit more 'aged' and from a bygone age where Adam and the Ants were popular (no offence to any fans out there!) than some of their bigger hits that have aged superbly.
But on top of the odd track that hasn't aged well, there are still tracks that were new to me that I instantly appreciated. "Why Can't I Be You?", which Wikipedia tells me was released just a month after I was born, is a prime example. "Just Like Heaven" and "High" also fit this bracket perfectly. Therefore, although the ardent fan will have nothing new to expect from this album, this is a perfect taster for anyone wanting to get into the band like me.
It's available on the cheap from Amazon for less than a fiver at the moment. So do what I did, have a listen to 30-second clips on iTunes, wonder where you've heard them before ...
I have for many years been a fan of VanMorrison. For me, his music epitomizes the rawness of the sixties, and although he has made many albums since this one, I still believe this to be one of the best that VanMorrison ever created. This album, although something of an experimental one at the time, was the foundation of a career that would span decades, and as I listen to newer works by VanMorrison, the roots that he created with Astral Weeks still come out in the harmonies and mood of his present work, although of course, like with all good artists, his work has evolved into newness. One of the most impressive images that this album produces in my mind is how new and experimental the sixties were, and how artists were encouraged to be inventive, and not merely copiers of earlier styles.

I first really got into VanMorrison shortly after i started playing the saxophone, in 1999 when he released this album Back On Top.
I had heard Precious Time on the radio and i loved it and went a brought it straight away for £13.99.
After i had brought it i just couldnt stop playing it what had i been missing it was brilliant and there was a lot of saxophone in it aswell which was a real added bonus.
The CD cover is very basic just a black silloute of himself with autumn colours behind him, the album comes with all the words to the songs, very nicely done.
