Two discs, you lucky people.
This definitive album is full to brimming with the very best of the heart-pounding sound that was The Clash.
Arguably they are the best group (Mick Jones, Joe Strummer, Tipper Headon, and Paul Simonon) to come out of the punk era; their guitars and drums a-blazing.
This is pure London rock that sometimes mixes its in-your-face agression with gentle reggae and comes out with a stunning combination. And after all these years it still has that raw edge to their music, which made it feel so dangerous and intimidating.
Listen to some real classics - "Rock The Casbah", "Should I Stay Or Should I go", "I Fought The Law", "Lost in The Supermarket", "Tommy Gun", "White Riot", "English Civil War", especially if you like to headbang and pogo yourself into a frenzy.
Or "Straight To Hell", "Armagideon Time", "Bank Robber", "Police And Thieves" and "London Calling" for the tracks that get as laid back as The Clash could bear to let themselves go.
Other tracks on the compilation that I have not mentioned so far are:- The Magnificent Seven, This is Radio Clash, Clampdown, Train In Vain, Guns Of Brixton, Somebody Got Murdered, (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais, Janie Jones, Complete Control, Capitol Radio, Career Opportunities, Clash City Rockers, Safe European Home, Stay Free, and Spanish Bombs.
Ass-kicking is one way you could describe this. Simmeringly explosive is another. Wickedly observant. An eloquent social commentary. Unashamed in its anger. Confrontational in angst-ridden lyrics.
If you like your football Stuart Pearce-style; if you like your boots to be DM's; if you like the Mr. Angry's of this world, then your adrenalin will love you for this.
Some words of advice before you put this album on and crank up the volume to number 11 (a brief nod to all Spinal Tap freaks)-
1. Warn your neighbours beforehand, and evaculate the family together with pets to a safe distance.
2. Pad the walls.
3. Nail down windows.
4. Pack away breakables.
5. Light blue touch paper and retire...
