I'm a graduate in English and Creative Writing, hoping to be the new Douglas Adams. I've just got back from Travelling around the world, and am currently working for the Social Services to clear a few debts.

These five guys from Tewkesbury, UK, have had a tough time breaking in the punk scene, with teenyboppers such as 'Busted' taking away from the real talent in such music. But underground Ska is the way forward, and this album, their third, is a positive example of how good ska/punk can be. The band consists of Alex (Al) Copeland- vocals, Damon (Des) Robins - lead guitar, Paul (Wol) Gurney - rhythm guitar, Chris (Jarvis) Murphy - bass, and Jeremy (Jem) King - drums. They are set to break in the genre dominated by American artists.
The album tracks are: 1) The Story So Far 2) Roots 3) Give It A Try 4) Change Of Scene 5) Skanking Song 6) Dotted Line 7) Ego 8) It's Over 9) Friend Called Fred 10) Too Little Too Late
My personal favourites are the title of the album song, 'The story so far', this is an excellent upbeat, typical British Ska song and the best song to open the album up with, it introduces the listener into the genre, and the standard of music on the album. Their second single 'Roots', which made it into the top 50 despite any airplay, is also on this album.
Keeping up true [Spunge] theme, 'Skanking Song' is a whole song about haircuts. Just like any punk you can't take the lyrics too seriously, or you will be driven to insanity. The punk comedians are going from strength to strength, supporting some of the big named punk bands, such as NOFX, and playing alongside Metallica. The album is one, which shows them at their true potential, to really rock this world!
It is hard to find any flaws in this album, however to listen to the album once, you would think that all the songs sound the same, but give it a chance and listen to it a few times before you make your decision. The cover and inlay are typical of punk groups, cartoons seen before by New Found Glory, and even Good Charlotte, but remember that [Spunge] came out first, so are the original.
Rating them alongside other Ska/Punk bands is hard to do because they are the one of the very few British Ska bands to have broken the music industry. Some other bands such as 4Ft Fingers, and B*Movie Heroes are coming up their close behind, but [Spunge] are the original West Midland Skater Massive!
Their website is http://www.spunge.co.uk If your going to buy the album get it from the official site, give them all the support they deserve.
