Afternoon tea at Savoy, bit disappointing
Review of The Savoy, London by  Kateb8

Advantages: Lovely surroundings, (mainly) delicious tea.
Disadvantages: Poor service

...An enjoyable, but disappointing for the cost, afternoon tea at The Savoy. The location is ideal, on the Strand adjacent to Covent Garden, an easy walk from several tube stations and on several bus routes. The facade of the hotel and the lobby are beautiful, as is the lounge area where tea is taken. During tea, a pianist plays, which is a lovely accompaniment, although some of the songs seemed a bit modern given the setting! Unfortunately the service was not what you would expect. We waited quite a long time for various things and staff could be seen chatting in the corners while people waited etc. There was an excellent choice of tea and the option to try as many as you wished. The Savoy blend which we chose was delicious, apart from our last pot, which didn't seem to have been brewed freshly and came out grey... Read review

Savoy Resort
Review of Savoy Resort, Funchal by  CHAOS1979

Advantages: Fantastic Customer Service, Amazing views, Well Presented and clean rooms
Disadvantages: On a hill, but then most of madeira is!

...The Savoy Resort is pretty much amazing and we found it offers the most outstanding customer service ever! The Atlantic views are incredible and it is only located about 10 mins pleasant walk along the harbour from the centre of Funchal, Madeira's capital. There is a wide variety of leisure facilities both on and off site, including indoor heated pools, sauna's,beauty salons, sea filled pools (very novel!) and loads of lovely staff to make sure you make the most of it while you are on site. The gardens surrounding the complex are beautifully landscaped, really enhancing the sea views offered around most of the site. They provide welcome shade in the middle of the day and provide a a fair amount of privacy if you so feel like it. There is heaps off site activities, including diving, dolphin watching, catamaran trips, levada... Read review

The Savoy - perfect for students!
Review of Savoy (Nottingham) by  rd89

Advantages: Cheaper, traditional, out-of-town location
Disadvantages: Not recently refurbished, screens are sometimes a bit small

...The Savoy cinema, situated in Lenton, the student area of Nottingham, is perfect for a cheap night out. Unlike all the ultra-modern, (and ultra-expensive) multiplex cinemas, the Savoy has retained the 'traditional' feel - big red velvet chairs (some fine, others have a spring or two out of place..!), and the big red curtains in some screens which are drawn back before the start of the film. Whilst the screens are not all huge, nor are the furnishings particularly new, you get what you pay for. The tickets are quite a bit cheaper than those at the major cinemas, and the savings are particularly felt when buying the popcorn/drinks/confectionary. Although they don't show every film, nor do they have the wide selection of timings, they generally have a fairly good selection available. In all, the Savoy cinema is definitely worth a visit...
