Advantages: Sophisticated guitar music Disadvantages: Only 42 minutes. Occasionally lacking inspiration.
Longwave - not to be confused with the rather more hyped Longview - are not exactly a household name, and I find it puzzling why. It seems so many bands from the burgeoning New York scene have been forced down our throats over the last few years as ?the next Strokes?, yet The StrangestThings (the band?s second album, but first UK release) almost passed us by on its low key release back in February. By chance the accompanying single ?Everywhere You Turn? caught my ear and I made a note of the band?s name, but didn?t do much about it. I bought the album a month or two ago in Virgin for a bargain £4.99 (think it should?ve been £7.99, but if they?re going to mis-price their stock I won?t complain!) and all I can say is it?s one of my albums of 2003!

- I can dance to the Tango; do the fox trot, mambo, and others as I had to learn these routines when I worked for Butlins. It is always a pleasure to ...
Advantages: Very Scary and Bloody Disadvantages: Nothing
The THING.
Let me start by saying that if Kurt Russell had not been in this movie it probably would have been a so-so film. However he lifts the whole film, in my opinion.
The film is based on the novel by John W Campbell Jnr and is a remake of the original black and white movie made in 1951 called The Thing from Another World.
An American research team are in the Antarctic when one day there world is turned upside down. Firstly with some crazed Norwegian in a helicopter trying to shoot dead a poor running dog and then later when things start happening around the base.
The dog it seems is not a dog and soon some of the scientists are not human at all. It seems there is a malevolent alien parasitic organism that has been discovered and then released by the Norwegians and it can take the form of any living thing ...
